Personalized Backpack?

Thinking of getting DD a backpack from the Disney Store for our upcoming vacation / plane ride to hold books and snacks.

Is it really a bad idea to personalize with her first name?  If so, should I do initilas or leave it just with a character.  

Which character do you like?  I am leaning to Pooh.

    i've always heard it is bad to put first names on clothes, bags, etc.  that strangers now know your LO name and that could lead to trouble as a stranger could coax them away, LO thinks it's ok since this person knows my name type of thinking...  i think initials are fine or a character.  does DD have a favorite?

    She loves Mickey, but none of the options they have are the "new" Mickey from the current show.  They are all old school or Golf related.  Not sure she woudl like that.

     I think Eeyore is kinda cute too.

    I wouldn't put a name on a backpack until your LO is old enough to understand about strangers. Kids are trusting, especially if someone knows there name. It could maker her a target for someone looking for an easy child to target. It probably would never happen, but I wouldn't take the chance.

    I love Tinkerbell so I would probably choose that :) Or the old traditional Minnie Mouse.  I would put her name on it if you think she'll be able to use it for years to come. Just be careful with strangers.

    I think the whole thought behind not personalizing a kid's backpack because of a stranger knowing their name is stupid.  I use DS's name in public all the time.  So if we were in a crowded place anyone can hear me say his name and then in turn when I am not paying attention or turn my back they could say his name and lure him away.  DS has a cute PBK backpack with his name on it.

    I'd put her name on it if you want her name on it.  I get the concern, but my thought is that I'm not going to be leaving her alone anywhere until she knows enough not to go with strangers.  And by the time I let her hang out on her own with her backpack, she's going to know enough not to be fooled by someone who reads her name off her backpack.
