Hi there.
If you've been diagnosed with PCOS, how did you know to get checked for this? What were your symptoms? I have made an appointment with an endocrinologist to help stabalize my thyroid, but think I am also having trouble with my ovary.. I feel pain on the left side and am really bloated around my lower abdomen. I also felt pain during sex last night. I know to talk to the doctor about this, but am wondering if people with this condition could give me more insight into their symptoms. Thanks!
Re: Women with PCOS
My OBGYN did an insulin resistance test on me, and it came back positive.
Irregular periods + carried my weight around my middle + a few random chin hairs = classic PCOS. If you Google PCOS, it will come up with a list of the "classic symptoms".
However, really only an u/s will show you if you have PC ovaries.
BFP #3 via cancelled IUI ~ C (2lb 3oz; HELLP) 5/16/11
BFP #4 via the natural (free!) way ~ E (8lb 11oz) 9/13/12
Irregular Periods, Excessive thick hair (chin, nipples, stomach, neck), Partly insulin resistant, raised testosterone.
My mom, aunt, and grandma have PCOS.
My list of obvious symptoms: facial hair-more than the random plucker, boob and belly hair, scalp hair thinning in a male-pattern-baldness way, weight that won't go away with normal dieting, periods that disappear for months on end or come every 3 weeks, depression.
My list of hormonal/medical symptoms: elevated testosterone, FSH to LH ratio is 1:3.4 (iirc) and should be 1:1 or thereabouts, elevated fasting insulin levels, polycystic ovaries (my ob called them "classic"), borderline high blood pressure.
Pretty much I have the laundry list of PCOS minus the acne. How I dodged that bullet I'll never know, but I'm thankful. Zits and a beard just aren't attractive. Soulcysters.net is an awesome resource.
