Similac Sensitive for Fussiness and Gas

Anyone using this? Is or was ,before you used this, your baby always fussy and gassy or are you using it as kinda a preventative?  My LO was being breastfed (I was pumping and bottle feeding) but i think she is having some issues with the breastmilk because she never seems satisfied no matter how much or how often she eats and she has started throwing up huge amounts of it after eating. its not your regular spit up... its like projectile! LOL its intense.Anyways last night after probably 3 hours of crying, fussing, eating then puking, and pooping alot, DH and I decided to give her some formula in hopes it would help. I have a can of the Similac Sensitive for fussiness and gas so I decided to try that to see if it would help her tummy because we could tell it was definitely upset. Well she did great with it! She hasnt spit up once with it and she seems to be satisfied after eating now. I mean I know its only be a night and half a day but she seems happier and more comfortable as well. BUT now im confused. The can says for babies with a lactose sensitivity but Im not sure she has a lactose sensitivity so im not sure if i should keep her on it or switch to the regular Similac formula. I'm a nerd and called the "feeding experts Line" and asked if it was ok to keep her on it and they said it is b/c its not strictly for babies with a lactose sensitivity its just safe for them to use if the do. They said I could continue to use this as her everyday formula and there is no reason to switch if she is thriving on it. But I just wanted to here from other moms, get your opinion??

Thanks! =]

Re: Similac Sensitive for Fussiness and Gas

  • LO was also gassy and fussy with my breast milk and regular similac. When we switched to similac sensitive she did great. If you're gonna use formula... stick with the sensitive. GL:)

This. Dd was miserable on my BM, and we supplemented with regular similac initially (though she was still BF at the time, so that may not have been the most accurate trial) but she was gassy on that, as well. She's not nearly as gassy with this formula, though we're thinking of swapping to Sensitive for spitup.  But the sensitive is definitley much better than the plain old similac for us!

  • She may be sensitive to lactose. My baby has always been a formula baby but was started on the reg. similic and was vomitting a lot so the hospital switched her thinking it was the lactose upsetting her and they were right. We tried her on Enfilmil gentlelease (i think thats what its called) and it has a small amount of lactose and once again she vomitted so we are sticking with the Sim sensitive.

BTW lactose is the sugar in milk. I doubt you want to cut dairy from your diet. Hope everything stays good for you all. GL

  • Definitely stick to the sensitive if it is working for your LO! I had difficulty BF, so we switched to formula around week 2. Unfortunately, DD was intolerant to any sensitive/gentle formulas, so we had to switch to hypoallergenic. Good luck!
  • thanks mommies! =]  i will definitely stick with the sensitive!
