serving a grilled cheese sandwich as finger food?

I know to cut off the crust, but beyond that how small should I cut the sandwich?  Into 1/4's?  1 inch pieces?

  • I cut it into bite size pieces (same size I'd do fruit) with a pizza cutter.

  • My DD is a bit younger, but I usually cut it into pretty tiny pieces... like the size of a puff.
  • I would do about the size of a puff if it were square.
  • Cut into pieces the size of dice or smaller.

I cut it into long strips. I get about 8 strips out of one sandwich.

This. That way DS can hold it and break off pieces.

  • DS is 13 months and a finger-food "expert" but I still cut grilled cheese into pretty small pieces.  I also use a pizza cutter to make it easier.  He had one for lunch today!

    This.  He loves it!

  • At first I cut them up into small bite-sized pieces (like a puff or piece of fruit). Now as she gets older the pieces are a little bigger. I could start to tell that she could handle bigger pieces. Just follow your LOs lead. Try a certain size, see how they do, and adjust accordingly.
  • I just cut it in strips and give it to her that way.  I actually find she is better at preventing choking than I am.
  • I do bite sized too. I haven't had good luck so far with strips of anything, they both (esp dd) stuff the whole thing in their mouth.
  • This seems crazy to me!  I cut it in half and he takes bites, and has for a couple of months now.  I don't cut the crust off either.  (Should this be a FFFC?)
