Parenting after a Loss

This cracks me up

So last night I had some friends over and my one friend was telling us how her almost 3 year old son is gifted and should skip kindergarten! She is a great mom and works with her son alot but he's just your average almost 3 year old with a good parent. Plus this kid has NO socialization skills because he never has playdates, isn't in daycare or pre-school, has no siblings and doesn't know how to interact with other kids. I'm a teacher and most of my friends who came over are teachers and social workers, so we were thinking " You're going to be one of those parents!" UGH! Plus, in our district, they won't even diagnose gifted til 3rd grade!

Re: This cracks me up

  • My mother wanted me to skip kindergarten, mostly because they only had half-day kindergarten so it would be cheaper for her. They agreed to test me, and I cried. Clearly, I was not ready, lol.

Sometimes parents can get a little ahead of themselves!

Oh wow!  That drives me nuts when people say that stuff about their kids!  Then it's those of us who teach younger grades who get to deal with telling them that being gifted is not about having all the right answers...ok, I'll stop ranting! ;)
