9 month old moms - anyone not doing finger foods yet?

My DS is almost 9 months next week and we are not doing finger foods yet.  We just started puffs and he barely gets one down and does this weird gagging face.

I see everyone is eating REAL food now and we are nowhere close.  I mean we are on Yo Baby yogurt and Stage 2 foods and of course formula but that is it?

Am I behind?

    we just had our 9 month appointment a couple days ago and our pedi said to try some finger foods.  we hadnt done anything besides puffs until yesterday.  so youre not alone! my LO has a very sensitive tummy and i was so worried about making things worse.  our pedi said instead of starting off with pieces of food to mash up some foods she was used to but not puree them. so yesterday we did that with peaches and mangos.  she seemed to do pretty well. gagged a couple times but we're just gonna take it slow and see how she does! dont worry about it.

    It took us awhile to get started on foods other than purees because he has a very sensitive gagreflex and I was scared he would choke. We first started with a mum-mum and took it verrrry slow. This was around 8 months. Then we tried puffs, I first cut them in half. He would gag so we would just try again the next day. Same exact thing for yogurt melts, I cut them in half.

    At his 9 month appointment, his pedi said to keep trying with finger foods and literally, a few days ago he is a completely different baby! He actually feeds himself whole puffs and yogurt melts and devours them! I gave him blueberries for the first time yesterday (I cut those in 1/2 or 1/4) and he did very well with them, skin and all. Tomorow I'm going to try pieces of cheese.

    Just keep practicing and your LO will get used to the texture and catch on.

    DS turns 9 months on Sunday, and we haven't started fingers foods yet.  DS has a hard time grabbing puffs and yogurt melts with his fingers, and when he does grab them, he doesn't know what to do with them.  We usually guide his hand into his mouth, but then he doesn't know that he needs to let go of the food.  It's a very slow process.

    S is 10 months old today and we've just started finger foods the last week or so. She had an issue with oatmeal cereal when we first started solids so our Dr is suggesting avoiding things with oat flour until after a year, so we started with rice puffs instead of the regular puffs. She does good with those, it took her a couple tries but now she likes them. We're doing some steamed veggies this weekend, and probably some fruit too. We tried banana but she wasn't really into that, I don't think she liked that they were slimy!!
