Success after IF

From IF board: Anyone go to Advanced fertility in Gurnee, IL?

Is anyone using or have you used Advanced Fertility in Gurnee, IL? I am looking into this clinic for our IVF's.   I want to know how the RE is there? Is he a nice guy?  Good bedside manner? (My current DOES NOT have one at all-- a douchecanoe as Dambo80 would say)How is the staff?Do they have good availibility? How is there IVF procedure?  Worth it to drive an hour to get there?THANKS ALL.  DH and I are having a hard time deciding what to do.  Stay with our current RE who we don't really care for and is more expensive, or go into the unknown for less money and a longer drive. EEK!  HELP!

  • Who do you see currently? I am not sure how far it is for you but we used Dr. Miller and LOVED him.
  • Loading the player...
  • I'm dying to know who your current RE is (is it dr. strawn?????)

Anyway, Dr. Sherbahn did my IVF and the result is my daughter so clearly I'm happy with how things went.  Having said that, I wouldn't really call him nice.  He's definitely a numbers guy (notice all the charts and graphs on the web site) and very into the science of it all.  My husband and I met with him for a consultation, he did a hysteroscopy and then I didn't see him again until the egg retrieval.  A different doctor who is no longer at the clinic did my transfer.

I thought the staff was all really nice.  There was one ultrasound tech who had a thick accent so I had trouble sometimes understanding what she was saying but that was more funny for me than annoying.  Overall, the nurses were all super nice and easy to work with.

I got an appointment pretty quickly with them and started my IVF about a month later after some additional testing was done.  Like most clinics, they cycle in groups so you sort of have to get on their schedule.  I know that they close their lab occasionally for maintenance.

They have early  morning monitoring appointments so I can remember getting up very early to get down there and then get back to work without being too late.  I really didn't think the drive was all that bad.  I think it was worth the drive and if I could afford another IVF there I would do one in a heartbeat.

They definitely have very high success rates so that is a huge consideration.

If you're looking for something less expensive have you looked into the Advanced Institute of Fertility?  They offer IVF for $5,900.

If you have any other questions just let me know!

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

If you would have said it was a woman I could have guessed who it was...but I am with gabbeyh, I wanna know:)

We used Dr. Katayama who was affiliated with the clinic in Gurnee, I believe he worked out of that clinic a few days a week. We loved him, but he passed away this spring.

I can guess who the woman would be.

Actually, Dr. Katayama did not work with Dr. Sherbahn, it was a different clinic.  I wish he had though because then perhaps Dr. Sherbahn would be willing to treat my immune issues.  As it stands, he does not deal with those issues.

It's funny how the little the world of infertility is.

  • I can second Dr Miller in Naperville (thanks to firsttogo).    We LOVE him, he is very on top of things and also very honest about what he thinks your chances are, etc.   He is also very aggressive and from what I have seen and heard, he has great results.

I love the staff thus far and things are right in order, etc.   I am getting ready to cycle with them in August and so far so great!~    My old RE was horrible and they just did not have the follow through that Dr. Millers staff does.

I wish you all the best!

P.S   (firsttogo) hope all is well for you & thanks again for the recommendation.....we LOVE miller
