taking a toddler to the drive in ?

Has anyone done this?

DH and I need a date night and I think the drive in would be a fun one. I know we could get a babysitter for it and leave him at home but if we could take him then it could be something we did on a regulat basis at a much less cost since babysitters are exspensive.

I was thinking of doing his night time routine and then putting him in the car for a short drive to sleep. Then going and catching the 8:45/9pm movie. I think he would sleep through a move as long as the sound wasn't to loud. He transfers just fine most of the time so I think he would just go back to sleep once we got home. I haven't been to a drive in for so long I am wondering if this will work or does it sound crazy?

  • we did it with G. He slept the whole time. We'd have done it more but having the radio on made our car battery die and we needed a jump

  • I don't see why you couldn't if he's a car sleeper.  Night time routine, make sure he's nice and asleep and go.  If it was me I'd take a portable radio and lawn chairs and sit outside the car if the weather is nice.  We used to go to the drive in when we lived near one and there was always people sitting out of their cars.

Check the start time of the movies, they don't start until it's really dark.

  • We did that with Andrew as an infant... I'd totally do it again with him as a toddle... same thing as you said... close to bedtime, drive around... he's be out - I'm sure.  As for the noise... its not too loud... just perfect for white noise!  :)
