My diapers stink!

I thought they smelled a little after I pulled them out of the wash this time, but this morning when DS woke up it smelled like he had a huge poopy diaper, but there was nothing in there.

Do I need to use more detergent?  Strip them?  I don't know what ammonia smells like.  Should I add vinegar, bleach or oxyclean to the wash?

Re: My diapers stink!

  • Vinegar will combat ammonia, which is not what you're smelling (ammonia is more a pee smell, not the poopy diaper smell).  Other than that, I'm interested to see what other EFFers say because we are having a similar issue.

  • We have had a similar situation in the past.  BTW ammonia smells strong, like hardcore pee but more acrid.

Anyway with the poop smell, we switched detergents and it helped for a while, but then we switched to Rockin Green and that took care of it all together.  Usually poop smell means you need more detergent.

  • Poop smell = more or different detergent

Ammonia (you'll know it - it'll knock you over) = overnight vinegar soak for non-pul items

    In my experience only.
