Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Now that your parents... anniversaries?

Now that you have a LO what do you do for your anniversary?

(DH and I used to have a mini-vacation and party on our boat, and DH can't understand why we can't still do that, minus the alcohol.  My dream anniversary is to sleep in, and eat dinner without interruption.  Not go on a big extravagant road trip and expensive lodge rental.)

Re: Now that your parents... anniversaries?

  • I say go for it! We were just talking about our anniversary tonight. We were thinking about going camping for ours in October but decided just to have a nice dinner and maybe send Emmalee to grandma's house down the street so we can sleep in one morning. Last year I chartered a 4 hour sailing trip for us, my BFF watched Emmalee for the day.

  • I see you are pg & have a toddler.  I can *totally* understand your anniversary wish at the moment lol!  However, as your kids get older, it's just easier to get back to some adult time.  We have not left our kids a lot (not saying I think it's bad if people do) but when our kids were 1 & 3 we went to Mexico for 5 days & it was soooo fun.  Now they're 3 & 5 and I look forward now to more date nights, some time away here & there.  You'll get there again- it just takes some of us longer than others- admittedly I'm not even quite there yet!!
  • We only had our first anniversary to ourselves...I spent #2 in labor, and #3 planning Alannah's birthday! (Our anniversary is July 14, Alannah's birthday is July 15!) So needless to say, we never even had a special way to celebrate, anyways. We did leave Alannah with grandma so we could go out to eat this year, at least. If you and your DH look forward to getting away for your anniversary, do it, whether it is a few hours, or a few days! Being husband and wife is just as important as being parents, so celebrate it!

  • We have never done anything that major for our anniversary, the first year I was more than a week overdue with DD1, the third one I was barely six weeks postpartum with DD2. But I don't see why being parents has to mean you can't do something like that unless it's just no longer in your budget. For our anniversary next year I would LOVE to get a hotel for a weekend w/o the kids.
  • Since we are big hockey fans, we made it our goal to see a NHL game every year for our anniversary. We were unable to go to one for our second because I was on bed-rest, but we have worked one in for our other anniversaries. Sometimes it is a little late and not on the actual day (as we have to fly in order to see one), but we know what we are celebrating and it is still special to us. If we are not going to a game on that day, then we usually still go out to dinner at a nice restaurant and get a babysitter for DS.
  • Last year we ordered dinner and hung out with DD.  We likely went to bed early, since DD was only 3 months old and had just started waking up A LOT at night.  It was very romantic.

We've never hugely celebrated our anniversary - usually dinner out, a little booty, maybe a movie.  We go on trips every 5 years to celebrate.  For our 5th anniversary, we went to our favorite place at the beach - 9 months later, along came DD!

This year, I don't know what we're doing - I guess we should start thinking about it since it's less than 2 months away, huh?!

  • I just make DH a special dinner. We never really did anything special except for out first year.
  • We're thinking about getting dressed up, going out for a nice dinner and then out for drinks. (this weekend is our anniversary!).  Originally we were going to go to Napa or Vegas, but neither of us want to leave DD nor do we have the time to take a vacation right now, so we decided not to go just for the sake of doing something "big".

Just spending time together is special to us :)

  • For our first anniv, we went out to lunch b/c we had a 2 mo old at home! This year (our second anniv) we're staying overnight in Philly and going to a nice dinner and then a nice brunch in the morning.
