Just by myself? Shortly after 4 weeks. I was a fraidy cat about it until I went out with them and a friend a couple times at 4 weeks (not my husband), and it forced me to be the "expert" on putting the stroller together, etc. and then I had enough confidence to do it solo.
I waited a few months and I only took them out alone because they had to go to the doctor a bunch of times and I had no choice. I'm glad I was forced to take them out by myself because I was nervous. It is a big production to get them out of the house. LOL I still don't like taking them out alone. I take them for walks a lot by myself. They are almost 7 months now. My husband works a lot so I am alone with them more often than not. I am 100% comfortable and confident alone with them at home but I really should take them out more by myself.
About 3 weeks old. I desperately needed to get out of the house so I just bit the bullet and did it. Now at 13 weeks they still sleep when out and about so I consider it NBD as long as its not time to eat. I haven't mastered feeding both alone in public yet.

I waited about 8 weeks since it was flu season when they were born. I still don't take them many places solo, unless it's to a family members house. My husband and I take them out on errands on the weekends now. It's just hard n your own. I feel comfortable doing it, but it just takes SO long to do the smallest errand. It was actually easier when they were smaller since they slept all the time.

As soon as they were out of the NICU. I think it's better to try early and don't get discouraged if it's a disaster! People will understand and not be offended if they both end up screaming.
Eight weeks since it was flu season. It's hard and wearing, but if you plan for all the what ifs, you should be just fine! Just have a back up plan for everything you do. I think that's what makes us MoMs so great!
It's all such a blur now, but I think it was somewhere around 6 or 8 weeks. Since I was really nervous about them crying when I was out, I eased into it, meaning I went for walks to the park, etc. Then I got up the nerve to walk to the grocery store, pharmacy, etc. Nowadays I don't even think twice about them crying in the store. Course, I don't want it to happen, but I don't stress about it like I used to.
As soon as I could drive on my own (I had an episiotomy) so about 10 days. I took them to the breast feeding support group at the hospital. It was the perfect place to go because I knew there was people there to help me if need be. We went twice a week at the beginning and still go once a week now mostly to socialize. We go out almost everyday even if it is just to the post office or for a walk. Getting out makes things seem so much less overwhelming for me.
We welcomed our girls on 11.7.12 @ 40w0d!

I have a 5 year old as well. She and the babies are 27 months apart. It seriously has been just recently. About 2.5 years when I felt truly comfortable with all three.

A couple of months old. I first took them to their checkup by myself, and it wasn't too bad. I put one in the Baby Bjorn and carried the other in the car seat. This approach worked well while they were small, but now that they are bigger and older, I use the Baby Trend Double Snap n Go Stroller to go into stores. I plan everything around their naps and it's fine. It's difficult sometimes if they are both crying, but you'll figure out what works by trial and error. It's definitely exhausting being out and about with them alone though!

Early on. We went out as a family for the first time when they were about 2 weeks old. I think the first time I took them out by myself was to a play group (I have an older son) when they were about 5 weeks old. I would have done it sooner, but we had a nanny until just last week and I didn't really NEED to take them anywhere with me because she was at the house and could take care of them.
I go stir-crazy staying at home though, so in this first week without any outside help, I've managed to make it out almost everyday with my 6 month old twins and 2 year old toddler (they are 22 months apart). It's a bit of a production, but I really have it down and it helps us all to get out for a bit!
5 days. ihop. After restricted GD dieting for months on end, I needed some fugging pancakes.
(For frame of reference, while I had pre-e and significant blood loss just short of a transfusion and was extremely weak, I did deliver vaginally and had no tearing so I didn't have any pain recovery - just didn't exactly have my sanity about me - I would NOT recommend anyone take their babies out at 5 days solo like I did - just because I came away from my trip for pancakes with everyone in one piece doesn't mean that it was a good idea... I could have passed out or dropped a car seat or any number of things...)

6 weeks I think but only cause my brother was here till then. And I had to get all clear to drive. At that point it was all the time by myself with the 4 kids.

DH and I shared a car till they were 10 months old. That meant if I had a car, DH was home, so it didn't make sense for me to take them anywhere alone till 10m. (There were times a friend would pick me up and we'd go out though.) Otherwise I would've done it from maybe 6-8 weeks on. Things were so chaotic before then, plus I also had flu season babies.
Just by myself? Shortly after 4 weeks. I was a fraidy cat about it until I went out with them and a friend a couple times at 4 weeks (not my husband), and it forced me to be the "expert" on putting the stroller together, etc. and then I had enough confidence to do it solo.
I think that's a smart way to ease into it if you're nervous, especially if you're a first-time mom!
Probably around 12 weeks. DH or my mom went with me to peds appts & I still prefer to have help there b/c I hate for them to touch anything b/c of germs!
Around 12 weeks, I could use the DSNG and go to the grocery store for a few items. I still think it's hard to get out in between meals and naps (and it takes so much time to get them loaded to go anywhere). I try to be good about their schedule. We just started getting decent sleep at ~11months, so I don't want to do anything to mess that up!

ditto this. they got home a little after 7 weeks and the next day we had to see the pedi thanks to one of the babies alarms going off 13 times the first night. besides the pita-ness of unloading and loading the babies and stroller I find it easier to be out and about then at home. They are more easily entertained on errands and will fall asleep. At home, no matter how tired they are, unless it's afternoon nap time they fight sleep.
