Are bottles and strerilizers really needed?

I have both but have not opened yet.. Are thy needed really?

I do plan on using bottles but I thought to warm up I can just do it in warm water and to sterilize they just need to be put once in boiling water. is that right? thanks so much!

  • I just boil to sterilize. And my LO doesn't even require that milk be warm, she'll drink it cold. There's a chance you won't need to warm it up at all.

  • I have both a bottle warmer and sterilizer and used both at first but do not now.  I use the sterilizer when I get new bottles or nipples but I don't use the warmer at all anymore.  I also thought that the bottle needed to be warmed up but LO drinks her bottles at room temperature...much easier for when we're not at home!

  • We use ours daily, but I'm kind of a germ-freak as far as the sterilizer goes.  The pedi said it wasn't really necessary to boil/sterilize bottles on a daily basis, but you should boil them before the first use.

I make DD's bottles each morning and leave them in the fridge.  Because they are so cold, I stick them in the warmer.

  • I wash them in teh dishwasher once daily and then steralize the nipple and seal (we use Ventaire bottles). My mother said it's a must. The Pedi said the dishwasher was just fine. But they both said I must wash them in the dishwasher or steralizer at least once a day.
  • I don't think it's a must, but we have both and it has made my life MUCH easier.  We dont generally have a full load of dishes to wash each day in the dishwasher, so the sterilizer allows me to clean a few bottles at a time without having to do a full load.  The warmer warms the bottle to room temp when I take it out of the fridge.  Could be done by soaking the bottle in heated water, but that takes much longer and creates extra dirty dishes.

  • I don't sterilize the bottles (we just use the dishwasher) or warm them before feeding. But my nanny does boil the bottles days a week. They are a lot shinier after boiling, but there's no real need to do that at all.
