Re: boobs leaking - should i pump?

  • I would...don't know if that is the correct answer but I am feeding like crazy and pumping the extra. My milk just keeps flowing and it makes it nice to have options!

  • I wouldn't.  You're milk probably has not regulated itself yet judging by your lo's age.  If you pump you're telling your body that it needs to make more milk.  Wear some breast pads.  I wore them for the first 2-3 weeks and I no longer leak.
  • My boobs still leak and DS s over 6 weeks...I don't pump when they leak but I do wear pads, especially at night otherwise it's disasterous. But DS is sleeping longer. Or if he cries, I leak (so weird).

Yes  I'm engorged and leaking right now.  DH thinks it's funny!  It gets much better when DD nurses.  I've had to pump the last few days due to latching issues but, now that she's latching well, I'm not going to anymore until she's about 4 weeks.  I want to make enough for her right now and that's it!!

  • When I was leaking like crazy (still do a times) and hurting, I would catch what was leaking out in a little cup and dab the milk on my nipples to help them heal. I think it worked great for me :) I did pump while engorged and leaking a lot and I think it made it worse and I was engorged way longer then I probably should have been.

    Mine do also

  • Pumping during engorgement may lead to prolonged engorgement or an oversupply of milk.  You are only supposed to pump for relief at this stage - not for milk.
