So I was goofing off at Costco with my momma today and found a dresser and bookcase I fell in love with. I've already decided on white furniture for the baby's room, but was obviously waiting to buy since I'm not too far along yet.
But this dresser and bookcase are GORGEOUS, gender neutral, transitional in style, and incredibly in quality. SOLID WOOD, with dovetail drawers, smooth metal side slides and the drawers locked/snapped into place.
It really was a beautiful set, and the dresser was only $399, while the bookcase was only $299, for $700 bucks total. Having worked in a furniture store I know that quality set is worth at least $1000 bucks.
Only questions I have are:
1. Is it too early, should I wait and possibly not find another deal like this?
2. Do you think I will have a problem finding a white crib to match and should buy a whole set together? (The crib I want is $550 bucks, and I the matching pieces are $1100 bucks, which is a lot for us in one big chunk.)
Opinions please! Oh, and here's the link if you want to see it:
Re: Opinions on buying furniture? (a little long)
well.....i will have to disagree on the gender neutralness of this dresser/bookcase. It looks more for a girl, especially, when you see all the other peices you can get to grow with the baby, when they become older. I would defnitely suggest waiting till you are farther along and possibly shopping around. American signature has great sets at affordable prices. White sets are normally reserved for girls. Something dark like cherry wood or ebony s more unisex as you can put blue pink or green up against it and always goes very well with just about any color and looks nice and gives that richness, fullness look.
I would wait and shop around. To spend so much money, you want to make sure your child can grow with the furniture, not grow out of it. For example a 4 - in - 1 crib that turns into a todler bed and later on a fuill size bed. Not to shatter your dreams of this fabulous find you found, but don't rush. ANother great place is Target and believe it or not JC Penny has great cribs online, excellent styles too.
Good Luck!!!!
I am stuck on white furniture. I know a little boy won't be crazy about it when he's a pre-teen or teenager, but I am hoping we will eventually have a girl. I don't like dark furniture for a baby's room, and our baby's room is sort of small, so I don't want to darken it any more than it already is.
I know its SORT of feminine, but I think with the right bedding that transitional style will be just fine for my little bean whether its a boy or girl. I see your point, but I think the photo by that company was geared for girls.
But you're absolutely right. The crib I want is a 4 in 1 from a really great quality company near my home. That's why its a little pricier unfortunately.
I didn't get to see the furniture, but for the record, DS's crib is white. It's from ikea (it was ranked highest for safety). Also, the bedding set I had originally really liked was from pottery barn, and seemed very gender neutral. I think you really can go both ways with white and it will look great.
Still, I would recommend waiting a little while.
