Favorite cleaning supplies/cleaning tips?

I never know what cleaning supplies to get and was just wondering what your favorites are? I love disinfecting wipes, swiffer wet jet & Mr. Clean magic eraser but everything else I just kinda use whatever. Also do you have any cleaning tips that you use that make life easier? Thanks in advance!

Re: Favorite cleaning supplies/cleaning tips?

  • My favorite cleaning supplies are:

Lysol wipes - I use these to wipe down my kitchen and bathrooms.

Glass cleaner & good paper towels - For mirrors and windows.

Swiffer duster - For furniture dusting.

Swiffer Wet Jet - For my floors (especially hardwoods as they aren't supposed to get really wet).

    My favorite cleaning tips are:

A place for everything and everything in it's place - Everything has to have a home and we put it back.

Clean as you go - Don't leave messes for later.  Clean up a room when you leave it.  We clean the playroom before nap and before bed (and before we go somewhere).  When we eat meals, we clean up the kitchen and dishes.  Put dirty clothes in the appropriate hamper.  If we get something out for art projects/homeschool, we put it all back.  It saves you a lot of time because if things get overwhelming, it's hard to function let alone clean.

Keep a cleaning schedule - Try to do the same things on the same day of the week.  It makes it really efficient.  Same with laundry.  That way you keep up with all loads.

Thanks for the great tips! I'm trying really hard to get my house in order so it's not overwhelming. Slowly but surely  it's getting there but I need all the advice I can get!

  • I love Baby Ganics.  I use the glass cleaner, wipes, stain remover, etc.  I was hooked when the wipes seemed to clean better than the clorox wipes.  I'll still use Clorox wipes on the stove and prep counter where meat and things layed.  I use scrubbing bubbles and lysol spray for the bathroom.

Cleaning tip:  Organize, organize, organize and clean frequently so that it isn't overwhelming.

  • I also have a blog that has a ton of tips on it for homemaking (cooking, cleaning, laundry, grocery tips, recipes, couponing tips) if you want to check it out.  After years of try, fail, adjust and reading everything I could, I have found some great things that have helped me.  On my blog I share them.

  • DS is the kid who will eat anything so aside from my swiffer wet jet and lysol wipes everything we have is either 7th generation or babyganics.  They both seem to work fine.

My favorite cleaning "tool" are my sponges that I will only buy at the dollar stores.  They have a specific kind that come 6 in a pack and they foam up way better than any other more expensive sponge I have bought.  Plus, I don't feel guilty throwing the m away more frequently to keep things more sanitary because they are less than 20 cents a piece.

  • There are some really good tips and reminders on here.  Thanks for posting this question!  My DH has been helping out a lot with the household but I'll be a SAHM soon and the home and kids will be my "job"....  I'll be checking that blog, too, for help cause I am a horrible cleaner/organizer.
  • I have a stainless steel spray that I use for my stainless stuff. I buy it at Bed Bath and Beyond.

For glass, windex and this special "glass" towel I use (no streaks)

Vinegar for my floors (diluted in water).

I like comet for my bathroom.

LOVE the Mr. Clean Magic eraser!!! That is awesome!

  • I use baking soda for everything!

I cleaned our whole basement floor (we have peeing dogs) with it- just sprinkle it and spray it with water then scrub with a brush and rinse with water! Same way I clean my bathtub, shower and toilet. If you also sprinkle it in the bottom of the oven, spray it with water and leave it overnight. Just scrape it out the next morning and it takes the baked on stuff and the burnt smell with it. And the next time you turn on your over, it doesnt stink like cleaners do.

I also love the Swiffer Wet Jet and the regular Swiffer with the wet mopping pads. They work great for wood floors.

For disinfecting, I like the Clorox Anywhere Hard Surface spray.
