Anyone working out right now?

I seriously just can't bring myself to do it. Before BFP, I was working out 4-5 days per week. Usually 3-4 runs and 2-3 Bikram Yoga classes. I know I can't do Bikram anymore, but I can't even muster the energy to WALK on the treadmill. I'm just so exhausted by the time I get home!

Anyone else having trouble with this? Any good workout rec's?

Re: Anyone working out right now?

  • I was like you...5 sixty minute workouts a week -- difficult cardio stuff.  Now?  Just walking quickly, but not getting my heart rate above 140, as an article suggested for pregos.  I would not do my workouts at the end of a long work day either -- I know not everyone can do it, but can you wake up at least 30 minutes earlier and do your run/walk in the morning before work?  Just an idea.

  • I have a 12 minute walk to/from work and by the time I get home at night I need a nap on the couch - seriously- every night! I notice I'm walking slower now, too- nobody ever used to pass me- now they pass all the time! I'm sure the energy will pick back up at some point. Right now, the thought of the gym is laughable. Doesn't help that it's 90 degrees here even in the mornings when I would usually go- between that and the exhaustion, the gym doesn't stand much of a chance. :(

  • I used to be a runner too.  I have been swimming a little and walking but lately the walking has been hard.  I had to stop yesterday and throw-up in the street.  It was really gross.
  • I've been forcing myself to at least continue running 20-25 miles a week.  I think I feel less fatigued after a four or five mile run than before. But, my time has really slowed down and sometimes I have to take walk breaks.

  • I was doing the Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred DVD up until last week.  I started a prenatal work out DVD that seems wimpy and unorganized compared to Jillian, but I'm going to keep doing it because I know it's at least something and I won't be overexerting myself.  DH and I also love just taking walks together for hours so I figure I'm getting in exercise that way, too.

  • I can't speak for my current workouts b/c I totally got out of my routine about 3 weeks before my bfp and need to get back into it.  However, when I got pg with DS I was already working with a trainer and it was great b/c I was tired and queasy, but still had to go when I know I would have stayed home if I didn't have that commitment.  It taught me that I could workout through those tough weeks and I think it made it easier to continue through 40w until I was on bedrest/induced.  Of course the only times I puked (2 or 3 times) were at the gym! :)

I plan on starting up my cardio classes and some light jogging again in the next couple of days.

  • I was really good about working out until this last weekend.  I can barely stay awake during the day.  I'm so exhausted.  I will keep trying to workout when I have small burst of energy, but today is not that day.  I'm going back to bed :)

  • Nope. If I exert myself at all I bleed. Nothing but sitting for me.
  • I ran 4 miles this morning, but so far I'm not having very many pregnancy symptoms.  I'm hoping I can keep at it after week 5 when it seems the fatigue starts setting in.

  • I was pretty active with my workouts.  I realized I was pregnant while working out. I was lunging and almost vomited.  Since then I have not been able to get in any workouts.  I walked today but now my workouts consist of me walking to my bed and passing out.  I ordered a prego workout DVD so I will see how that goes once it comes in.  Hopefully I will be able to muster up enough energy to do it daily.
  • I was doing P90X before I found out I was preggo.  I had to stop that right away.  I don't live within walking distance of a gym and I don't have a car during the day so there's not much more I can do than walk my dog for excercise.  I try to take him on a 20 minute walk every day but it's 100+ degrees out so that doesn't always happen.  I've tried a few prenatal yoga dvd's but they're all way too simple for me so I dunno...

  • I just got my bfp Friday and I normally work out M-F.  I worked out today and it was fine.  I am not to the point of fatigue or m/s yet but I really hope to continue when/if it starts.  My first pregnancy I didn't work out at all & gained a lot of weight.  If all goes well this time I plan to work out M-F.  I have a lot of determination to eat and be healthy.  My fingers are crossed because I know this can all change in a second.

  • I posted a similar thread a few weeks ago.

I, too, am a pretty active runner and aerobic class go-er.  When I first found out I was pregnant, I was too exhausted to do anything.  I've gradually gained some energy and have started to do elliptical work and aerobics class again.  (I'm 7 weeks now.)

I know I can still run at this point, but I'm just too scared that something might happen and want to hold off until the u/s.

  • I am, but I haven't been exhausted yet.  I'm sure once school starts again I'll be exhausted.

  • I try to go every other day as long as I'm feeling up for it.  I wanted to go yesterday but I had a pounding headache and felt soo exhausted.  There was no way.  Better luck today!

  • I was a regular gym-goer up until sometime last month. I find it hard to go to the gym in the summer....and we've been crazy busy.

I really need to gte back to the gym though. I do bootcamp classes twice a week, but I'm not sure if I can handle it now that I'm PG (I have asthma too). I think I may just do step class again and see how bootcamp goes on Thursday and if I can do it.

  • I used to do a "crossfit" type of workout about 3-4 times a week.

I have kept on working out (when I have the energy) but haven't done jump-roping, jumping lunges, or over-head squats (just doesn't feel right).

I do feel more tired now so I do speed walk (2 min), jog (3 min) for about 20 to 30 minutes.  I also do the elliptical trainer.  I have continued to do squats, lunges, assisted pull-ups and dips.  I haven't done push ups though (even though I used to do burpees before).

Does anybody know if doing ab work (sit ups, etc) is okay for preg. women?

What about doing the spin bike?

  • I was exactly like you...very fit and healthy...now I can't do a thing.  My Dr. said just get through the first tri and then pick it back up slowly and get back to where I can during pregnany.

  • Before pg I was working out 5 times a week for about 45 minutes either on the bike or doing Firm videos with light weights. I am still trying to do them 5 nights a week, but I am happy with 4. I've cut my bike rides down to 25 minutes and my workout videos I last for about 25, 30 on a good day. I also do not exercise at the same intensity that I was able to before. My body just doesn't want to do it. I do have to force myself to start working out but I always feel more energized when I am done. Its not easy.
