Don't really get it...

So I know the term preggo is a term that is generally not accepted round these parts, but I am not sure I really get why. Is it just the "cuteness" of the word? Too juvenile? Is preggers OK? I have heard that used and not flamed so, is it just preggo or any cutsy term for pg. I don't really use those terms, but am not bothered by them either so I was just curious what the aversion was about.

Not sure how everyone else feels about it, but it just irks me. If I'm adult enough to be trying to conceive a child, then I feel like I should be adult enough to use the real term - pregnant.

Some will say that preggers and preggo sound juvenile and we're all adults so they sound silly. Just like using the words baby dance for sex. I mean, the sentence "We did the baby dance and got preggers" just sounds ridiculous. I personally don't prefer KU either but most don't seem to mind. I just don't use it myself.

Others will say that preggers and preggo almost belittles what we're trying to do, especially those who have been trying a long time or have trouble TTC. I'm trying so hard to get pregNANT, not preggo.

I really don't care what people say: pg, preggers, preggo, KU, KTFU....My DH always says preggers.

What I do hate is "BD" IMO if you can't say "sex" you shouldn't be having it.

For me...yeah, it is just too cutesie and juvenile. Everytime I hear/see it I can only see "16 and pregnant". I hate preggers too.

I used to not get it either, but once I got serious about TTC--from the minute I went of BC--it irked me. And the longer I TTC, the more it irks me. I agree with pp that it sort of downplays the seriousness.

That's not to say I have not used the terms with friends who use them, but I try not to even with them.

I am an adult. I don't need cute terms for grown up things. I have sex, I don't do a "baby dance". I don't get preggers or preggo, I (hopefully) will get pregnant. Grown up words, let's use them.

Different strokes for different folks. Board culture seems to dictate that preggo and preggers are not ok, but KU and personifying your period (AF) is. ::Shrugs:: Who knows why. Does it really matter?
