Yes, I had it with DS and with this pregnancy as well.
It started with a tingly feeling in my hands and my the end of each day my hands would be so swollen and achy I could hardly sleep. My OB recommended hand braces. I only really need one for my right hand. I wear it while I am sleeping and it works wonders! I highly recommend it.
i had it with my first pregnancy. i got it when i was in my 3rd tri. i didnt have any swelling, but i had a lot of pain, numbness, tingling, burning and aches. it would be the worst at night, and i would have a hard time sleeping, or staying asleep because i was in that much pain. it went away a few weeks after i had ds.
i had it when i was pregnant with my daughter and it was debilitating. it never fully went away and i expect it to come back completely around 35 weeks or so. it did get much better very soon after delivery, but i continued to have minor symptoms all the way up until now.
I think my case is extreme and in the minority. I got it at the end of the 3rd tri last time. It got worse after DS was born. It had me in tears, mostly out of frustration. My hands and arms would fall asleep after holding DS for an extended period of time, and I'd get scared I'd drop him. I also had trouble with the little snaps on his clothes. I love to cook and had trouble gripping a knife. It gradually went away, probably took 3-4 months pp. Cortisone shots helped. I still get it once in a while. I'm dreading I'll get it again this time. I've talked to my OB about this since it was so bad last time. He said if it becomes miserable, we can talk about cortisone shots but definitely out of the question in the 1st tri. The hand braces do help.
I have it now. No swelling, but numbness, pain, and tingling at night (while I'm sleeping - it wakes me up sometimes) and when I wake up in the morning. I don't get it much during the day, sometimes a little bit on my drive in to work from how I hold the steering wheel.
Just an FYI - I started having these symptoms last week. I'd wake up in the middle of the night with pain from my shoulders to my hands, my wrists were killing me and my hands were weak. I have no idea that carpal tunnel occured in pregnancy, but upon consulting Dr. Google, I saw that, plus another thing called brachial neuralgia - basically the swelling causes subluxations in your spine, irritating the nerves and causing the pain. I went to my chiropractor who agreed with the brachial neuralgia vs. carpal tunnel, adjusted me, and the pain immediately went away.
It might be worth a shot to visit a chiropractor if you are in a lot of pain. Good luck!
Thank you all for your help, I will have to try the brace and see how that goes. It is really bad and I would have never thought it was a PG symptom but it is.
