Questions about washing/sterilizing bottles and pump

Just wondering if I'm washing and sterilizing everything correctly, I've just recently started pumping.

I wash everything in hot, soapy, water and give a good rinse under the running tap. Then I let everything air dry (so is air drying ok or should I be drying?).

When I air dry everything, even when it's not 100% dry, it's ok to put in the Avent microwave sterilizer?

And then when everything's sterilized, it's ok to use the pump and/or bottles if there's still condensation inside?

Thanks for your help! I want to make sure I'm doing everything right when I'm getting a bottle ready for my LO!

Re: Questions about washing/sterilizing bottles and pump

  • when i was pumping i used to just wash everything in soapy hot water and air dry and sterilize once a week or so.  so what you're doing is just fine! i think it's probably okay if there's a little condensation but it probably works better if everything is dried off.

  • If everything is not completely dry, it's okay.  I use it that way when I need to.

So do you use anything to dry it off or just air dry? My sterilizer says whatever is in there will stay sterilize for 24 hrs after being in the microwave if the cover is not opened, but even waiting 24 hrs, there's still condensation.

  • I just air dry.
