Re: Names you don't hear often...
Abcde
No lie. Pronounced "ab-suh-dee".
TOTALLY NMS, to say the least! LOL
I love how someone ALWAYS says that.
Uncommon names I have heard recently-Isaac, Julius, Miller, Jolie , Iyana
I am really starting to love this name too!
Other names:
June, Jonah (although I think it's becoming more popular), Edith, Courtney, Lawrence, Phillip, Patrice, Karen, Corinne
Really? lol sorry... new to this board (well returning after 4 years, actually)
It's a common urban myth/ email forward, along with Female, Lemonjello, L-a (L dash a), etc.
It has really grown on me, mainly because he is just so freakin cute :-)
DD is named Matilda and I've never meet another person IRL with that name. Some of my favorite uncommon names are Vera, Estelle, Beatrice, Cosette and Minette (my cats name).
Someone I know named their baby "Cove"...
Other names I haven't heard for a while for babies are:
Deborah, Shelley, Aileen, Kathy...
Anya is my DDs middle name!
Marissa, Lena, Sonya, Ashley, Christina. There are so many.
I LOVE Marissa! But our last name starts with M and I'm not crazy about matchyh initials. DH doesn't like it anyway so I need to scratch it off my list for good, but I keep thinking about that name.
We love her name! Its so perfect for her. We call her Tillie, but I like how it has a lot of options for NN so it can grow with her. I do see it on here sometimes, but it was 700-something on SSA for 2009 so still very uncommon. Good luck getting KU!
My husband once had a patient named Female (Fuh-mall)
I have lots of friends having babies right now some of the names are:
Linda Lou, Clementine & Georgia (they are sisters).
Funny; Isaac is actually #40 on the SSA list!
(It was on our list so I researched it.
)
I won't say I like all the names, but all of these kids are less than 2:
Boys: Taggert, Rocky, Daeglan, Bayden, Trevon, Leif, Enzo, Hudson, Drezden, Draylen
Girls: River, Ever, Olivine, Breada, Tayli, Bentley-Jo, Eden, Hazel (my DD), Jetta, Ila, Snow
There is a reason you don't hear Anita too often anymore. Pretty much every 6th grader has figured out the whole "Anita bath, Anita cookie, etc, etc..." teasing strategy.
wow never heard of that one before! NMS either!
Names I'd like to see more of...
Girls: Dawn, Lynette, Marie (as a first name, Love It!), Delores, Winifred, Roxanne, Vella, Carrie, Cynthia, Solvenge, Simone and Stacy
Boys: Omar, Bernard, Phillip, Dean, Dale, Lee, Roger, Theodore, Donovan, Jeremiah and Keith
My cousin has a little boy named Maximus. Another cousin named her DD, Sarai. Also, my friend's baby nephew is named Rufus.
Unfortunately, the last 3 babies born to ppl I know (3 different mothers) were named, Aidan, Braeden, and Zayden. :-/
ETA: Just thought of another. Friend from HS named her son Ezio.
Cole Joseph 7/05/07
Nora Anne 11/03/12
9lbs, 6oz
My husband's cousins have kids with different names. Bearon, Major, and Truman.
My name (Jill) is VERY uncommon these days. Jillian is more common - but the older and original "just plain Jill" is something that I haven't seen on a baby in 15 years or more.
Una--or Oona
I knew an older lady with this name and at first I really didn't like it--but it really grew on me.
It's popular in Ireland and means "lamb." It's from the epic poem The Faerie Queen. I know it's a really uncommon name, but I just really like it.
my little sister is named Teshya (Tea Sha), I've also met little girls named Micah and Delilah. We're giving LO the middle name Lokelani (Low Ka Loni) it's the Hawaiian word for red rose. It's pretty uncommon here on the mainland but not in Maui were DH is from.
As for boys I've recently met a Giovanni and a Tazio.

I love this name
--But it's my cat's name so I think it might be out!
Echo is actually on our girls list...
Well I saw this one as a legal name, in legal records (from my job).
My DD's name is Deirdre and I love love love it! I had several people give me looks when we decided on her name but I can't imagine her as anything else.
We were at a restaurant one night and an older woman overheard her name and came over to us, her name was Deirdre too and she was SO excited to meet a little girl with the same name.
