Just a cough and crankiness - what is it?

DS has had a cough for 4 or 5 days now. He's more cranky than normal (though he's also teething off and on) and bedtime has been rough. In the middle of the night, he has coughing fits and breathes loudly. We've been giving him his inhaler 2x a day already - his pedi recommended we bring it back out whenever he starts coughing during the day.

What do you think this is, an asthma episode? Usually with a cough he would have some other type of cold symptoms, but there's nothing. We keep debating whether to take him to the pedi over "just" a cough.

  • Emmalee doesn't have asthma, but her coughing and crankiness sounds just like what she has. We have attributed all her symptoms to teething, her molars are coming in and they can be the worse.

This is what I thought too, but I brought her in and it turned out to be croup.

  • Glad you took her in, hope she is feeling better.
