How would they know? Do you need to carry around LO's birth certificate?? DS is already the length of a 12 month old, so I guess I'd be screwed.

Seriously! DS is off the charts huge...I'm sure he'll be the size of an average 12 month old by around 6 months.

N.Y. Corrections Law ? 611 (McKinney 2002) provides that when a woman is committed to a correctional institution and gives birth or is nursing a child in her care under one year of age, the child may accompany/remain with her in the institution.

Write your congressperson and tell them that this law is outdated, especially in light of the new AAP guidelines. Tell your friends to write. Circle a petition. Start a Facebook page. That's how laws get changed!

Wow. Good to know. I'm originally from TN and I visit my family there often. Wouldn't want to get thrown in jail for feeding my child. What a crock.

OP- I'm in TN, too. What a tragedy. we should definitely write to our state representatives. Also, I dare someone to say something to me in public about breastfeeding. It won't go well for them.

And we wonder why TN is ranked so poorly in things like childhood obesity, rates of diabetes, etc. It makes me sad that our state is so backwards on some things.
