Re: Roll Call... even lurkers

  • i don't post too much anymore..a little busy, haha

my name is nora...i had my 2 amazing boys at 30 weeks due to severe pre-e and hellp. they were in the SCN for 3 weeks..and we dealt with RDS, a PDA, food allergy, and of course reflux. ?i was able to get pg with these little miracles thanks to fertility treatments..and i adore them with every inch of my heart.?

they are doing super at this point...the reflux is starting to clear up somewhat, we are on neocate for severe milk/soy allergy..but that causes constipation, so they are on miralax..but that causes gas..which keeps us up all night :p..otherwise they are doing great on milestones and weight..they are super boys!!

  • My DD was born 11/13/07 at exactly 28 weeks (1 lb 11 oz) due to my severe pre-e and her resulting IUGR.  88 days in the NICU and now many months later at home ... she is doing great!  Big Smile  She weighs 17 lbs 7 oz now.  And she is super active ... pulling herself up to standing, getting around super quick with her own crazy made up way of moving from point A to point B (involves pivoting on her head with alternating bouts of sitting up ... picture a bad summersault repeated over and over again).

  • I'm Melissa.  I developed PIH at 23 weeks which progressed into severe pre-e and HELLP.  We made it to 34 weeks.  I still have high BP from the HELLP, and I will likely have another preemie if I get brave enough for TTC.  I'm a 3rd generation pre-e mom.  Also, my mother was born at 7.5 months due to my grandmother's pre-e.
  • Hi there,

My fraternal twin girls were born 28 weeks 5 days for no known reason.

I had a healthy pregnancy up until some spotting one night, which got examined by an internal exam (which i believe pushed things faster than they would have otherwise unfolded); then 15 minutes later i was in labor and baby A popped out in 15 more minutes with no one around but me and DH - can we say trauma to the 4 of us?

About 54 days in the nicu.  Thank the Lord, DDs are doing well so far.   This board was an unparalleled help to me when i came home from the hospital without DDs.  THANK YOU!!!!!

  • Hi everyone.

My son Drake was born at 36w 2d ("technically" a preemie depending on who you talk to) with VACTERL Association.  He had several surgeries and procedures during his 6 month NICU stay.  I started coming here several months ago because I found the "NICU connection" but I now frequent the new special needs board, also.

  • My son Sam was born at 29w6d for no known reason (questionable abruption).  I had a "perfect" pregnancy up until then, except for an amnio (high risk screening for Downs) and GD.  Interestingly, I just found out from a doctor friend that the AFP test results that I got may also determine PTL?  I had never heard of this, but it was interesting to hear.  A little too late, though! Thank goodness he is doing really well so far.  He was in the NICU for 7 weeks and came home at 37 weeks gestationally.  He was on CPAP for 48 hours, nasal cannula for 3 days, and then room air.  He was also under the bili lights for about 5 days.  From then on, he was a feeder/grower.  This board is a great resource and source of support.

  • Hi!  My name is Nicole and my DS was born at 34 weeks (quite unexpectedly!)...He spent a little over 2 weeks in the NICU (apnea and body temp issues) and is now 3 and 1/2 months old.  Besides the usual acid reflux, he is doing really well!

  • I'm Jennifer from Orlando. My DS Nate was born at 33 weeks due to severe pre-e. I was on bedrest for 1 week before delivery. Nate had NEC while in the NICU and now has an ostomy that will be taken down next week. He's doing great now, 75th percentile in height and weight, my Pedi was floored.
  • Hello, I'm Shari and I've been lurking on this board since I was 28 weeks pregnant.  I was on bed rest for 7 weeks (four of it in the hospital) due to bleeding/pre-term labor.  The doctors think that my placenta was slowly abrupting--I'll know for sure next week when I go to my post partum follow-up because they will have the lab results back.  My DS was born at exactly 35 weeks and spent a week in the NICU so that he could receive antibiotics and phototherapy.  We are currently dealing with reflux, so I feel that I haven't slept in the month since he has been born.  I'm glad this board is here becaue it really helped to reassure me when I was going through those crazy weeks before he was born!

  • I'm Tiana! I gave birth to a 28 weeker on August 1st for no explained reason.  I was vacationing at the Jersey shore with the fam, didnt feel so hot, called my OB at home (i live in PA) who told me that it was probably just borderline dehydration and to go to the nearest hospital to get checked out.  Went to the hospital, found out that i was 3cm dilated and 100% effaced and progessing rapidly.  The problem? It was a local hospital that didnt have a NICU, so we had to get transported (via helicopter) to cooper hospital in camden.  Taryn Anna was born, 2lbs 10oz. After 55 days in the NICU, she is finally home!

  • I don't come on here very often (we don't have internet at home). I've been on and off since my son was born 3.5 years ago at 33 weeks.  He is doing great, and my second son, who is 18 months, was born at 31 weeks.  There is no apparent reason for my spontaneous labour.   I am currently pregnant with # 3 ...21 weeks and aiming for a whole lot more!!! We'll see. Trying progesterone and serial ultrasounds.  Wish us luck!

  • I am a lurker...

I am going to be an RN in December and hopefully find a work in a NICU.  I currently work in one and love it.  I love coming here to gain insight on what parents are feeling and I love reading all the stories.  My heart goes out to you guys.

  • Hi!  I'm Melissa.  I'm here because my DD Hailey was born at 35 weeks due to my PIH and Pre-e.  She was an IUGR baby who weighed 3lbs 13oz at birth.  Hailey spent 16 days in the NICU, mostly as a feeder and grower (she also had pretty severe jaundice). She is quickly approaching 1 year old (in 13 days!) and is doing great! :-)
  • Hi!  You will find me on here every now and then.  My DS was born at 33 weeks for no know reason.  All was fine until it wasn't.  I went into PTL but luckily they were able to stop my labor and I got a round of steroid shots for baby before my water broke and I delivered at the end of my 33 week.  DS was 4 lbs, 14 oz and 19 3/4" long at birth.  He was in the NICU for 15 days while he worked on eating and getting his A's and B's under control.  He came home on an apnea monitor and stayed on it for 6 weeks.  He is now almost 20 lbs at 6 months old.  Grow, baby, grow!
  • Hi!   I am the mom to two preemies.

My son Dominic was born at 31 weeks and weighed only 1 lb. 15 ozs.  He is now 5 and after a few years of physical/developmental therapy he is doing just fine.

My daughter Olivia was born at 24 weeks and 4 days.  She weighed only 15 ozs.   She is now 20 months and weighs 25 pounds!   She is still oxygen dependent and feeding tube dependent with a lot of gross motor and speech delays but we are getting there.

I also have a blog with tips and information for parents of preemies.  Hopefully it has some information that is useful to parents here - www.preemieparenting.blogspot.com

  • I'm Kelly and my water broke at 34 weeks.  We found out after my c-sec that I have a bicornuate uterus (had no idea before that) and DS was very large for his age (5 lbs and 18 inches), so he ran out of room early.  He spent 11 days in the NICU and I tested positive for an antibody that caused part of his white blood cell count to not thrive (kind of like the RH negative thing).  After a few months, his white cell counts were totally normal and he's now squarely in the 50th percentile for height and weight!

  • I'm here...late, but I'm here!  I post less now that I've gone back to work, but I check here at least once a day.  I'm Martha and my dd,Campbell, was born at 27 weeks, 6 days due to sudden and severe pre-eclampsia.  She spent 66 days in the NICU and is now 8 1/2 months old and doing great.  She does get weekly OT and PT for some motor delays but has shown great progress.  I've been so amazed at the strength of all the women on here and by the strength of our preemies.  I'm so glad I found this board when I was on bedrest.  You all helped me get through the scary times and now I'm happy to help out the new preemie moms when I can.
  • It's nice to read all the stories...

I'm Shana and I frequent this board (but haven't much lately since I went back to work)...

We got pregnant literally on our first try and were shocked. I had an uneventful pregnancy up until I went to ER at 28 weeks with severe left arm pain and chest pains. They found a blood clot in my left arm and I was admitted with severe pre-e and HELLP syndrome. It was determined that I had Factor II and MTHFR. Me and Lily hung on for 20 days and made it to 31 weeks before it was no longer safe and I had an emergency c/s that I was completely put under for because I suffered a seizure from my spinal. Lily was born on May 10th at 2 pounds 14 ounces and spent 44 days in the NICU. So 7 months after first starting to try we had our little Lily.

She is 5 months now and is weighing 10 pounds 2 ounces and is measuring 22.5 inches - growing like crazy.

  • My ds was born at 32 weeks. He is 21 days old today. I had placenta previa and placenta accreta. Accreta is when the placenta attaches too deep into the uterus. I started bleeding at 31w2d. They couldn't get the bleeding to stop, so I had a c/s at 32w. Unfortunately, because I also had the accreta, the doctors had to remove my uterus right after they took the baby out. They did this so that I wouldn't bleed to death. This is my 3rd child and I wasn't planning on having anymore, but it still makes me a little sad that I don't have the choice. But on the other hand, I am so happy to be alive! My baby is very healthy. He is still in the NICU, but I think he will be coming home very soon.
  • I am Sarah.  My Son Ryan was born at 36 weeks (I was dated wrong so we thought he was older) and spent 17 days in the NICU.  I was induced due to symptoms of pre-e including SEVERE swelling.  He 8lbs but was diagnosed with Pulmonary Hypertension and spent 12 days on a high frequency vent.  He has been home since May 27th and is doing great!
  • Hello,

I?m Carla from Northern Virginia. My son Colby was born at 28 weeks due to seizures from sudden Eclampsia. He was 2lbs 5oz and stayed in the NICU for 73days. The day after he came home he was readmitted to Peds due to an acute life threatening event (he stopped breathing as a pain response from his first shots , the scariest day of my life! ). He has been home almost 2 month now, on an apnea monitor, and weights 10lbs 10oz! He is doing great other than some normal preemie feeding and reflux issues.
