Pregnant after a Loss

How far can a person dilate w/o contractions?

I'm 3cm and nearly 100% effaced, I have an appt tomorrow.

I hope that I've progressed some more, but I wonder how far a woman can dilate w/o contrax. --since I've only had BH.

I'd like to b 100% effaced and at least a 4cm tomorrow, but wonder if it's possible to walk around at a 5 or higher and not even know it?

  • Hmmm... I have no idea but when I went to the Er on Thursday I was at 3cm... then when my water broke on Friday and I went to L&D they said I was at 5cm... I didn't feel anything up until my water broke... Maybe the same thing will happen to you!!! Start carrying around a towel LOL! But seriously sending labor dust your way!!!!!

  • With DS I was 4cm and 90% effaced at my 39 week appointment on a Monday. I went into labor that Thursday and got to the hospital an hour after contractions started and was a 6+. I got an epi right away, so i have to admit i never felt a painful contraction. This time I'm already almost 3.5cm, but they said it could be tomorrow or two weeks from now when I go into labor. The only thing ive felt so far is a weird urge to have a BM. I guess you can walk around dilated for a while. I'll keep my fingers crossed you have some good progress at your appt.!

  • Not sure but in my experience, I got to 5cm about 8 hours after my water broke and I still wasn't feeling any contractions. I got my epi without feeling a "real" contraction (they were starting pitocin and suggested I get the epi then).

  • I can tell you that with my first DD I was dialted to 5 cm without knowing it.  I went to the dr to get checked because I felt like I was sitting on a basketball.  Turns out I was sitting on her head.  They had to give me pitocin to start ctx because I wasnt having ANY!  I guess my BH before that had done enough to dialate me to 5..  GL!

  • I think in WTEWYE it said some women make it all the way to the laboring stage without feeling a thing. I hope ghat you have made serious progress :0) GL .... Maybe you can be the next Sparkler to meet her baby

  • There's someone who posted a birth story on the birth stories board that said she never had contractions... crazy, and slightly suspicious.
