Tell me about your infant car seats

I've seen the Graco Snugride mentioned here, but I went to the BRU website and it showed mixed reviews.  I also noticed it only goes up to 20 lbs?  Does anyone have the Graco Snugride that goes up to 35 lbs?  What other carseat would you recommend?

We also have a baby trend DSNG - do all infant carseats fit in this DSNG?

Thanks!

We had the snugride 35 and had no problems with it at all.  And it fit well in the DSNG.  They were only in their infant seats until 6 or 7 mths.  Even though they fit the weight requirement, they started to get heavy in the infant seat.

  • Based on the reviews provided by the BBB customer service rep, we went with the Peg Perego Primo Viaggio SIP Infant Car Seat.  In his opinion (and he is a new dad and this is the one he went with) it is the best on the market, with the Chicco and Graco right after.

I added them to my registry this weekend, so still have time to change based on responses on here.  : )

  • We had the Graco Snugride with DD (it went up to 22lbs and 29in) and she was in it until she was 7 months (she hit the height limit).  We plan on getting a Snugride 32 or 35 in case one baby is bigger than the other and will reuse DDs seat.  We loved the snug ride and it fit in a Snap n Go no problem.
  • We have the Chicco KeyFit 30 and really like it. I am a CPS tech (certified to install carseats, same as Police officers or Firefighters) and I can tell you that I've installed about every type of carseat in about every type of car, and I really love the ease of installation of the Chicco and in my opinion, fits the smaller babies the best. It is VERY highly rated. Like PP mentioned, I think we'll be moving my girls to the rear facing convertible seat by 6-8 months or so, just because I think the infant carriers plus my chunkers will make them too heavy (they were 6lbs at birth and now at 3 months are 12 and 13lbs).

We also have a DSNG and it works well.

Ditto this.  DD#1 reached the height limit before the weight limit.  And, to be honest, there was no way I was going to lug around a baby over 20 lbs plus the weight of the seat anyway.  I believe I've read that the Snugrides are the lightest seats on the market, which is important since you'll be carrying them around.  They fit in the DSNG without a problem.  We have not had any issues with ours.

  • I haven't had my boys yet, but we bought the Snugride 35-racer & we are getting the tandem stroller that matches.

  • We bought Chicco Kefit30s based on it being the top recommendation by Consumer Reports.  I just had my appt for the Car Seat Safety Check yesterday and the Tech told me she thinks these are the best carseats on the market based on how well made, reliable and easy to use they are.  She used them for her 3 kids as well.  They go up to 30 pounds rear-facing.

However, they don't snap in to the DSNG - you have to strap them in, which you can do easily (there are plenty of youtube vids showing you how to do this).  No, not all seats fit perfectly with the DSNG - if you go to the DSNG website, you can download a list of seats that do.

ETA - as an FYI, Chicco just came out with a double stroller (the Chicco Cortina Together) which fits 2 of these seats and is getting rave reviews all over the internet.  You might check it out!

  • We have the SnugRide 35 in the Racer pattern....we bought them based off of consumer reports. It was between these and the Chicco, the deciding factor for us was the SnugRide's extra bases were cheaper and we ended up buying 4 extra bases (a set for our second car and a set for our parents). They work well with the DSNG and we have gotten lots of compliments on the quality and pattern!

    BTW Shelley-Bean you have a PM ;)
