Thoughts on "Ennis" for a boy

It's always been on the list, but it's a long list. It's starting to come to the surface for me now. I'm starting to like it more and more.

Ennis or Innis? I like the E spelling today. It means "island" or "one choice". It's an Irish/welsh name. They say it's both on different sites. Alot of family members are E names such as Enoch, Emmett, Emory.

Anyway, be nice, but tell me what you think.

The only time I've heard this before was from Bill Cosby. Wasn't it his son's name? (IRL, not on TV)

I'm not a fan of the name..

I like Ennis. I don't like Innis... people will try to call him "Inny", which isn't the greatest of nicknames.

Not a bad name! The only association I have is with Bill Cosby's murdered son, though.

    Heath Ledger. "Brokeback Mountain."

I guess people didn't realize that was his character's name in that movie.

I happened to love his character in that movie. I didn't know that it meant "Island," but if you think about his character, he really did a good job. His name was also spelled Ennis. I really like the name. I like Welsh names a lot.

If people pick up on that the way I did--some people are going to ask about it and inevitably someone is going to tease your kid about being gay. I promise you they will.

To ME that movie was about a lot more than that--but to a lot of other people, they can't see past that--and it will get brought up. Just so you know.

I'm sorry but that's the first thing I thought. Perhaps I have a dirty mind, but I feel like they might get picked on...

First I thought of Brokeback Mountain. Then, it reminded me of the word "penis". Then, I thought of the sex scene in Brokeback Mountain.

You are mispronouncing it. It is not pronounced like "EE-nis."

    It is said like "Inn-is"

Brokeback Mountain is the only time I've heard that name. And I'd like it except I KNOW he's going to get called "Anus" a lot -- not because of the movie, just because Ennis sounds like Anus.

I had a friend named Annis (Scandanavian variation on Agnes) and she got called "Anus" ALL THE TIME growing up. Which is too bad, because Annis is a beautiful name.

No, I definitely know how to pronounce it.  But your average 5th grade boy will most certainly go right for ANUS.  Or PENIS.  Neither of which bodes well for Ennis' school experience.

I want to like the name - it was the name of Bill Cosby's son, but it's a little too close to a body part for me to be comfortable with.

It's bad.  He will most definitely be called the body parts mentioned above in jr. high and high school.  Don't do it!

kids are mean. this is true. But I gotta say I'd rather my kid be the one learning to shake it off rather than the kids being little ass holes. Every other Conner or Jacob I'm sure would be the ones picking on the Ennis' of the world. haha. I had a normal name and got made fun of, so they'll find something no matter what. Not too high on the list, but I do really like it.

    thanks!

I've never heard this name, but first thought was to put a P in front of it. So I bet that's what the other kids will think too.
