Choking and gagging NOT due to fast let down..?

Ok I was really hoping to have this whole breastfeeding thing down by now lol.  First it was latching, then oversupply issues, now DS gags and chokes through his feedings.  I know it isn't due to my let down because sometiems he doesn't start choking until halfway through the feeding.  This is what normally happens: He'll latch on, start sucking, I know he's getting a good flow of milk based on his swallowing then he'll start frowning, gulping loudly, his face turns red, he spits out my nipple and coughs, then starts crying.  He calms back down immediately after I offer my breast again...but then the cycle repeats.  He also chokes and gags on slow flow bottles.  I'm calling an LC tomorrow.  Anyone else have this issue?  Do they grow out of it?

Re: Choking and gagging NOT due to fast let down..?

  • I have no advice but my DD does the exact same thing. I have an oversupply, but she doesn't start the choking, gagging, screaming until about halfway through. Her doc had us start on Zantac, so we'll see if that helps.
