3rd Trimester

Possible flame worthy, when can I try baby evac. techniques?

Could I start trying to get this baby out by doing all the things I've seen other women doing? I am soooo done and just want an outside baby!

I'm talking about walking, squatting, labor cookies, castor oil. What do you think?

Putting on flame retardent suit

Re: Possible flame worthy, when can I try baby evac. techniques?

  • Yeah, the flame retardant suit is probably a good idea.  Considering you aren't full term yet, OWT are just that, and if any of these 'natural' ways to force LO to come worked, there would be no overdue babies. You have a month left, suck it up :D

  • Yeah I know they're OWT, but I think they would make me "feel" like I have some control. Since I have no control over my body anymore. Kinda would like some "control" back.
  • take it from someone who is overdue. you have no control over when labor starts naturally.

All of this pretty much. Also - I've got 4 days until my due date and have tried every stupid OWT in the past week because I am uncomfortable; none of it made me feel like I had any "control" and none of it worked any. If your body and LO aren't ready it doesn't really matter what you try. And if you start exhausting all this stuff before you're even full term, you are likely to have a L-O-N-G few weeks (potentially) until it actually happens. Good luck.

  • Full-term is 37 weeks, but if I were you I would wait till close to due date as possible.  I will be full-term labor day weekend and thought about going ahead and trying to induce naturally BUT I know the more time LO has IN the womb, the less likely she is born with health complications.
  • baby will come out when baby is ready - your body will know when it's time and do what it's supposed to do.

why would you want your baby to come out if he/she isn't ready???  i know how hot it is and the anxiety of meeting your LO, but good lord, your not even full term yet.

I'm 36 weeks, too, and wouldn't even imagine trying any of those things for that purpose. First, trying to have a baby prior to being full term is just not bright. Second, my midwife has told me that although 37 weeks is technically considered full term, there are still a variety of things that can be problematic if a baby is born prior to 39 weeks, depending on the baby. Finally, I have way too much to do!!!!!
  • No flames, I think 32-36 weeks were probably the worst for me.  Then I went out on maternity and now it is a little more tolerable (sort of).

You can try all of those things but the truth is they don't work to "induce" labor.  Do your reading on them.  The red raspberry leaf tea and castor oil will get your bowels moving, which might make you feel like you're making progress, but won't actually get your uterus contracting on its own.  But none of the OWTs are prohibited by doctors during pregnancy for a reason- they aren't going to do anything.

So if it makes a difference in your mental state, go ahead and start trying them.  But keep in mind that one of the last things to develop are your LOs lungs, which can keep them in NICU if they come early.  Try to find some other ways to make yourself more comfortable and take back some control of your body.

  • Instead of eating a bunch of nasty stuff that's just going to upset your stomach, maybe spend the next 4 wks walking and having some sexy time. Take a prenatal yoga class, go swimming read a non-pregnancy book. Your baby will come when it's good and ready. Nothing you do will change that. The sooner you realize this the sooner you'll be able to enjoy these last few weeks. And they can actually be enjoyable- it's all up to you.

Sorry if you feel the heat.

  • Your due date is not for 4 weeks.  I know your miserable but even at 36 weeks there is a chance of your baby having complications if born now.

  • I don't understand the rush to get baby out...sorry this bugs me when people start trying to get the baby out early.  You made it this far just suck it up.  I know you are uncomfortable...we all are.  You are almost there.  It's like running a marathon and giving up on the last mile....pointless!

Enjoy it while it lasts.  You'll get your control back after baby's born... right now it's doing what it can to keep baby healthy... obviously something very important.  The longer baby's in there the healthier he/she will be.  You're not even full term yet and I believe baby's lungs still have some developing to do.

I felt the same way when I was where you are.  Now, I WISH I was still pregnant sometimes.  Newborns are harder work than I originally though.  She keeps me super busy and I don't get much sleep.  Sure, I love her to death, but she's a handful-- especially since she's been diagnosed with fussy baby syndrome.

Overall, enjoy your last few weeks.  You won't think they were so bad once you've had the baby.  Be selfish for a few more weeks!

  • First of all, you are too early.

Second of all, babies come when they are ready for a reason.

Thirdly, all of the "tricks" that "help" make the baby come, only work if the baby is ready. Trust me, I know from first hand experience.

I lost my MP last weekend. I had a pressure point massage afterwards to "help" stir things up. It stirred things up for about 3 hours. Baby Bun was not ready to come out.

I have tried nipple stimulation, warm showers, massages, walking, etc. She is not ready, and she continually lets me know that.

Have fun with a baby. Then you really have no control!

Wait at least a week, then you can eat spicy food, use castor oil, and bounce on a birthing ball. But they still won't do crap until the baby feels like coming.

And ditto PPs on 39+ weeks really being safest for baby. It's really best to wait until then, but given that none of those methods really do anything, it wouldn't cause harm.

  • I know it's hard and you are so excited but none of the OWTs work.  I had DD#1 at 38 wks (she was healthy, 7lb 13oz, and ready to come on her own).  I tried the teas, the pineapple, walking, and hip rotations with the exercise ball.  The only thing I'd recommend is the walking and the exercise ball because they do help with labor itself and keeps things loose.  I'm done being preg as well and although I don't want to have a preemie I can understand how you feel.  LO will come out when they're ready but sometimes it's hard to wait and not know when that is.
  • I am on hospital bed rest with two boys trying to keep them in as long as possible, and my ute is measuring 45 weeks so I know how uncomfortable you are. Please do your baby a favor and relax, you could seriously be cheating her out of IQ points if you try to induce before she is ready.

This. Believe me no amount of sex, walking or any other stuff is going to force your baby out until they are ready.  It's going to be a long 4 wks for you.

  • You have no idea what feeling 'done' feels like at 36 weeks.  I thought I felt done then too but 5 weeks later it's a whole other story.  Suck it up.

  • Having been overdue once (10 days) and being close now (due Wed), I'd say none of the OWT actually work. I wouldn't bother trying any until I was past 40 weeks. My best friend was telling me today that I should try castor oil; I think I'd rather just wait than bother with it.

  • As much as I would loveee to not be pregnant anymore, I just dont think i could even try any of those OWT just in case.  Id feel so unbelievably horrible if i went early and there was something wrong w. my LO.  I am pretty much loathing being pregnant right now, but Its only 5 more weeks!!!

Do some walking or yogo though.  It wont bring on labor, but my doc said it would help make labor easier when its time!!

    This.

You sound very selfish. Your concern should be how your LO is doing, not how uncomfortable you are.

I was born at 36 wks (granted it was over 25 yrs ago) and was in the NICU for 10 days. You can't assume your LO is fully baked.

  • Why do you want a premature baby?  Your selfish thinking (if OWT's worked) would potentially mean a child with plenty of health issues for life.

"control" over the situation is delusional.
  • Well, since you've been told to "suck it up" about 5,000 times, how about doing something that's good for your body anyway?

Go for a hike, swim some laps, relax and drink some red raspberry leaf tea, have lots of sex with your DH.  Your baby will come when he/she is ready, so make the most of this time to focus on yourself.

  • I don't blame you. i feel very ready too. I just keep pushing through though telling myself it's only a few weeks left.  I obviously want baby to stay in longer for the reasons everyone has stated above. But I still understand how you feel.
  • Thanks to all the poster who understand my feelings.

As far as control, I said over my body. I can't wait for the day I can sleep on my belly or back. Or turn over in bed without making those noises. Or wake up several times a night to a very very full bladder. Or do household chores and not be winded as something as simple as sweeping. And don't forget eat and drink as I please. Yes I know I got pregnant, but it's still is frustrating when you physically can't do the same things as before.
