Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Do you still wash all new clothes first?

I was thinking about not doing it anymore. Her skin has never really been too sensitive. We just got back from the store and I want to put her in a new outfit right now to go out to dinner with the fam. Are you still doing it? For how long?

Re: Do you still wash all new clothes first?

  • I do, but just because I'm a germ freak Stick out tongue

I still do it with my toddlers clothes, too.

  • Try it. But take a freshly washed outfit just in case.
This is a test. This is only a test.
  • For the most part I do just out of habit but there have been times I have not.  For example I really needed a sleep sack (she decided she no longer liked to be swaddled) and I gave her one I had not washed and she was fine

  • I do and will continue to (probably forever). I don't always wash my clothes before I wear them, but DH always washes his.
  • Totally.  It's just about worrying about your LO's skin you know....you'd still want to do it b/c what if someone in the store touched it and was sick or something.  JMHO but I'd never put anything on DD that wasn't washed first, because you never know (i've seen people sneeze then touch baby clothes in the store, and have seen little kids pick noses and touch stuff in stores...so better safe than sorry)

  • I do, but I also wash my own clothes before wearing them.
  • i always do. for the reasons above and the clothes just feel better.
  • I'm a bad mom. I've never washed first.

  • Absolutely.  I do it for DS, DH and myself.  You never know where that outfit has been, who's touched it, what's been put on it, etc.
  • I did it for the first time today. I felt like a rebel lol

    He was fine...

    Exactly my thoughts.

  • I do and shes 4 months. She doesnt have sensitivities either, just a habit for me now I guess :)
  • I wash EVERYTHING before wearing it/using it. Even for myself. I'm just too much of a germaphobe not to.
  • I am getting lazy. At first I did because I wasn't sure if my baby was going to have a reaction but DD doesn't have sensitive skin so to save me some laundry time I haven't been. however, the pp above made a good point so I guess I will start doing it again.

  • I do...DS doesn't have particularly sensitive skin, but it's just never been worth the risk for me.  Plus the comments about kids picking their noses in the store really grossed me out, so I'm going to continue to do it even though it's a pain in the butt!  :)

  • He!l yes I do.  I will as long as I'm doing her laundry.  I still wash my own clothes before wearing them...new clothes are GROSS!

  • ALWAYS. I am germaphobe though. I just find it gross that people in the store have been touching it with their dirty, germy, boogery hands. Sorry, TMI. That's just how I feel though.
  • I do wash them as a general rule and probably always will.  However, there have been a couple of times I haven't- for example, I forgot to wash the 4th of July outfit I got him but it was only good for one day, so he wore it!  He was just fine.
  • I do but I also watch my own clothes when they are new.

  • I washed all of his preemie, newborn, 0-3 and 3-6.  I have clothing in larger sizes that I haven't washed and don't plan to.

  • Nope.  She's never had a reaction.  I don't even wash mine first (unless it's underwear, of course).
  • I do about 95% of the time...anything cotton (i.e. pants, onesies, sleep sacks, swaddle blankets, shirts, cotton dresses, etc.) goes into the wash before LO wears it, but dressier dresses and nicer stuff from Janie & Jack (which will wrinkle badly if it goes in the wash) I usually don't wash first. LO has fairly sensitive skin, but has never had a reaction from one of her unwashed dresses. I'll probably stop washing her clothes eventually, but not for a little while, lol!
