Boston girls - berry picking

Where to go this time of summer? We hated wards last year!

    We love Lookout farm in natick.  Not sure what they have in season right now to pick, I always got here in teh fall for apples.  You could probably call and ask.  Along with the picking they have a playground, caterpillar train ride for small kids and small petting animals.  We always have a great tiem for apple picking there.

    Just curious, what did you not like about Wards? I've never been, just seen it advertised.

    We're planning on going to Boston Hill Farm in North Andover for raspberries.  We've been there for strawberries earlier this summer and had a great time.  It's a smaller place, but has some animals and a really nice playground with picnic tables.

    We've also been to Smolak Farms in North Andover.  It's nice, but is fairly large and can be crowded.

    Yesterday we picked blueberries at Smolak Farms in North Andover. My kids loved it and there WAS NO ONE there.  It was great! I do agree with pp that it can get crowded so I am not sure how the berry picking is on the weekend but on friday afternoon it was fine. They have good ice cream there too.

    In brief - the berries were fine but their extras they advertised were a huge disappointment. Animals were non-existent, the sandbox was actually just a dirt patch where the grass had died, and the playground was actually a few old tractor tires - cool for climbing I guess except in the summer sun huge black tires get burning hot!

    Perhaps I'm picky ... Just realized I didn't like lookout for apples either. Found it overpriced, overpicked and overcrowded. Have you ever been to Tougas? Love love love it! I do like some stuff :)
