Pumping let down question...

OK, I have a medela pump and this is what is happening, I'm hoping someone can give me some insight.

There is the first setting which pumps a certain way for 2 minutes before the "let down" pump pattern starts up. Milk seems to flow relatively good during that first phase, but when it switches to the other patter of the let down my mild doesn't come out as easily, if barely at all. What I've been doing is just switching off  the pump and restarting it and allowing it to continue to pump on that initial setting. I seem to get a decent amount of milk out this way, but was wondering if there is something wrong doing it this way? I'm also concerned it means that maybe LO isn't getting it enough when she BF.

Has anyone ever had this problem? Insight??

  • when i first start pumping i have more milk initially too, what i do is i push the 'let down' button whenever i have milk coming out, (which is the small yellow circle button) then i let it go for a while. Then i switch back to the little pumps (by pushing the let down button again) and when milk comes again i switch back to the longer pumps. this is how i get the most milk.
