baby shower spots

hello,

i'm helping to plan a baby shower for a friend and wanted some input about locations, etc in SD.  my friend loves cupcakes- so that will be a definite in the catering department (or perhaps a cupcake decorating station?) ... but in terms of other food and a location, i'm stumped. she's a sports fan, lives in north county (but is willing to do the shower anywhere), doesn't want anything too cheesy for her shower.  something laid back but still special would be perfect.

i know that's vague, but that's what i'm working with so far. any input would be awesome.  thanks in advance, ladies!

Re: baby shower spots

  • If you want to do a park, you can go to the city's website and look up what park you like and rent a picnic area. That's what we did for my baby shower. Cupcakes sound like fun! There's a bunch of bakeries you can order from, but then again a cupcake decorating station sounds like fun too. Do you know the sex of the baby? If she's having a boy, it's easy to do a sports theme shower. When it comes to logistics of location we thought of several things for planning our shower: where is everyone coming from; where are we ordering our food from (so we're not driving all around town); how many guests to expect (how many tables, chairs, & shade options); who's going to help set up and break down; parking availability...just to name a few. As for food, it depends on what you want served; will you need chaffing dishes to keep food warm; BBQ (who's going to grill); food that will hold if no fridge is available.

    Hope this helps a little.

  • Hey!

I suggest South Coast Winery.  I work as a chef there and we have baby showers all the time, you can either have it indoors in a private room, or outside on the veranda.  We can design a menu for you, or you can order off of the menu.  We can even just do a cheese display and some appetizers.

  • I recently heard about a place called Babycakes.  I've never been there.  It looks like a coffee shop type place but they say they do parties.  What I like about them is that they definetly have cupcakes, do cakes, whatever.  AND there is a desert bar coming to order things like Chocolate Martinis and other non-alcoholic concoctions.  https://www.babycakessandiego.com/index.html

Also, I thought about another place that is a unique idea, not everyone does it.  It is A Baby Visit where you can have like a two and a half hour ultrasound babyshower and they take care of everything like balloons, snacks, games, ect.  There is a screen so your friends can see the baby but gives the mom some privacy while she is getting the ultrasound.

    Anyways, good luck!
