Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Anyone's LO eating solids more than 3x per day?

Seems like the rule of thumb around 9 months is that LO should be eating 2-3 solid meals per day. In our case DS often eats more than that... he'll have some bananas and cheerios or puffs at breakfast, eat 3 times at daycare (usually cereal and a fruit or veggie), and then usually something around our dinner time too.

I guess some of these could be considered "snacks," but I just want to make sure we're not giving him too much. He loves to eat!! Stick out tongue

  • My ped wants me to feed DS solids at least 4 times a day.  DS doesn't really eat much though.  At most, he'll have a few bites of finger foods and maybe 1-3 tablespoons of a puree per meal. I wish my DS loved to eat!

  • I think at that age I was giving DD four meals of solids per day.  She was more of a grazer.  I started to call them breakfast, "first half lunch," "second half lunch" and dinner.  Now she always does breakfast, snack, lunch and dinner.  Breakfast is light - as in almost not worth the trouble sometimes - and lunch and dinner can sometimes be ridiculously large for such a small person.   She sometimes gets hungry in the late afternoon/pre dinner, so they'll give her Cheerios or Mum Mums around 5 at daycare.  So, I think that might be a total of five eating sessions (breakfast, snack,  lunch, Cheerios break, dinner) per day plus bottles and nursing.  Writing this, it's amazing she is not 400 lbs.
  • My rule of thumb when it comes to feeding DD is a) is what she is eating (mostly) good for her? and b) Is she overweight? Both are no's (she's 52nd in weight) so she can eat as much as her little heart desires :)

  • we are starting to try and introduce breakfast in LOs mix.

His previous daycare was "too busy" to feed him breakfast at 9 - but the new one will feel him whenever we want - see why we switched...

Anyway - it seems like since he has been eating breakfast he hasn't beeen drinking as much at all or wanting the bottles. Now granted.. he is at a new place so that could be part of it. not sure though.
