and how do you know when to stop?

i think V might sleep better/longer when she's swaddled and can't get her crazy arms flailing, but she haaaates it and even though we use the velcro swaddlemes she often will have at least one hand worked out by morning (or by her night feeding even!).

so how long did you swaddle and what made you stop?

DS was not ready to be unswaddled even though he could work an arm out. He could undo the velcro, so we got the Miracle Blanket swaddle and it was our life saver!! We ended up swaddling until about 10 months. One day he was just done with it and when I laid him down to swaddle he rolled away and onto his tummy and went to sleep! We were never able to do one arm out he had to be completely swaddled. I have a friend who swaddled using the miracle blanket until her son was 1.

We swaddled for almost 6 months and stopped when she started rolling over in her SwaddleMe. I thought DD hated to be swaddled at first...she fought it and wiggled her arms out at night, but in the end she slept longer with it on and stopped fighting it as much after a few weeks of sticking with it....

We swaddled arms-in for only 3 weeks. Evan hated it! We then swaddled arms-out for about 4-5 months. He liked that secure feeling around his mid-section. Once he was moving around in the crib, we stopped.

We swaddled until 5 months. After about a month or so, she was arms out. You could try doing one arm in and one arm out, but if she is still startling, then you probably want to stick to both arms in for a while longer.

I don't remember exactly - at least 6 months or so? I believe we stopped because our blankets were just too small to keep him in anymore. DS liked his hands free - his legs were usually what woke him up.

DS started sleeping on his belly by 2 mos (I know, I know...) and we stopped swaddling by then. By 2 months though, he was already rolling over pretty easily, and would come unswaddled anyway.

I also recommend the Miracle Blanket. It's great! We swaddled complete with it until 5 or so months. At that point I would consistently find that DS had worked himself out of the swaddle by the middle of the night so I felt that the fact that he fought it that much meant he was ready to be done. So one night we did a sleep sack instead and he slept just as well.

You swaddle until they stop liking it. My LO has always hated it so we never swaddled. Some kids can break out of a traditional swaddle but still aren't ready to be unswaddled. I would try her without. If she sleeps well then maybe it's time to stop swaddling. If she doesn't I'd invest in one of those super swaddlers that are hard to get out of.

My kid hits himself in the face all night long. It doesn't bother him at all though.

We stopped at 8 weeks because he very obviously
HATED it. Not just the swaddling process, but the constriction. When we stopped he was a happier baby but did wake him self due to the Moro reflex until we started letting him tummy sleep at 12 weeks.

We used the velcro swaddle kind with our first, and those wore out so quickly that she was getting her arm out, even though she definitely still needed to be swaddled. I got a miracle blanket the second time around, and it was fabulous! She was probably getting close to 5 mos before she could get out of it. Another thing that is great is a Woombie. We used that for a little while after we stopped swaddling with #2, and it worked well, too. She never really liked sleeping on her back, so I started putting her on her tummy once we stopped swaddling (she could roll over from front to back by then). GL!

G just stopped fussing as much so we only swaddle if he's having a hard day. DH swaddled him the other day for a nap and he slept for 4.5 hours! I was shocked! lol
