When it comes to Valentine's Day, dh's birthday, father's day , christmas etc I ALWAYS have Cam hand make him a card or pottery with handprints, or a painted picture frame or something.
Dh has NEVER had Cam make me anything and I'm getting kinda bitter. Cam made me his own Birthday card this year and it was the cutest thing ever. He just folded and glued a piece of paper over and over, but i loved it and kept it.

I picked other. He will do a 'craft' if i put it out for him. I think it's mostly b/c H is so young still, but if I _want_ something made for me, I'll have to tell him to do so.
I think it'll change when H can say, "I want to make mama a card"
I never have the kids make crafts for DH because they're in school, and honestly, they both bring home more crafts than we know what to do with. That, and I'm really not crafty enough to have them make a craft with me!
However, I am big on birthday cakes and we started that tradition this year. I straight up told DH I wanted this from the kids and purchased most of the supplies for them. While I was out, he supervised the baking and the decorating on the cake. My birthday was first, so for DH's birthday, I also had the kids make and decorate a cake for DH.
It is totally my favorite gift and my DH KNOWS it. He is also an artist, so duh, if I didn't get homemade stuff, I'd be super bitter.
I usually think up the stuff I want and do it, but for birthdays, and valentines day, DH always gets a card for me from DS, and helps him sign it or traces his hand.
For Xmas, I got the best gift ever. DS and DH were running errands one day. DS spied the paint your own pottery store and asked to go in. DH helped him pick out two things to paint and they painted them for me. I had absolutely NO idea until I opened them on Xmas morning. One is a Rudolph mug (that resembles poop LOL) and the other is, no surprise, a hockey themed piggy bank. DH says it was the most ridiculously priced mug ever but I LOVE it.
Something from the paint your own pottery store is my dream gift! Ha. That's SO awesome.
"Oh come on Gromit, a bit more, you know... alluring!!"
