my pp weight loss stagnated

Crying

i had my 6 week pp appt today and weighed the same as at the pcp appt i had 2 weeks ago - still 20lbs heavier than pre-pg.  sigh.

but hey - i've been cleared to exercise now...  now if i could only get off the couch and out from under this nursing constantly-needs-to-be-held baby...  lol.

oh well..  i guess i'm just disappointed that bfing didn't get me closer to my original weight..  or at least into my pre-pg clothes....  :-(

Re: my pp weight loss stagnated

  • I hear you.  I am up 40 lbs from my pre-Mady weight.  You can always walk!   I found that leaving right after the morning feeding (no shower first) works well for me.  It was easier when it was only DD but still, I can do it now too.

  • It is still early.  Blame it on the heat and not being able to take walks outside.  :)
  • i bounce around a bit. i'll lose a  few then stay for weeks. there is hope. =) i really want to get some tone back so i'm with you on the exercise. it's too dang hot to be outside though.

  • I've read that the BF'ing link to losing weight doesn't really make a difference until around 3-6 months pp.  It took me a full (just a few days shy) nine months to lose all the weight.  Be patient, it will come off.  Big Smile

  • It is still early. I EBFed and it took me six months (it was also through the winter, a hard winter, which sucked!) to lose the baby weight. Since then, I've lost another 8 lbs. 3 more to go and I'm at my wedding weight. Good luck and I also suggest walking, it's the easiest thing to do with a baby.
  • 9 months on, 9 months off. i know it sucks, but it will come
  • It took me about 9 months to lose the 63 lbs i gained with #1.  I dont want to discourage you, but even once you hit your pre-preg weight, you may not fit in your pre-preg clothes.  everything shifts after you have a baby and things just dont fit the same.  I was 15 lbs LIGHTER then I was pre-preg before those clothes fit me again.

  • Aww.  That's how it always is  :o(  It stinks.  You WILL get there though!

    On a side note:

Am I seriously the only one who didn't know you couldn't work-out until after 6 weeks?

    47 months &
    11 months
  • Mine was the same, but I think I have lost more since then- and if it makes you feel better immediately prior to giving birth I only weighed 29 lbs more than I did when I weighed in for my first prenatal appt (so probably what I weighed when I got KU, I don't really gain much- if any during my first tri)  and I had an 8 lb 2 oz baby- I don't know how it was possible for me to only lose 9-10 lbs in the first 6 weeks between baby, placenta, fluid, etc, but I only really start to drop the weight after 6+ wks pp and I am not a big exerciser.

Weight loss is 85% what you put in your mouth 15% exercise unless you workout with Lance Armstrong or Michael Phelps.

6 weeks?! Wow babe. Give it some time! 9 months on, 9 months off is pretty reasonable. I don't know if that's recommended but that felt reasonable when I was there. Enjoy her while she is small even though you feel like she's just nursing nursing nursing. It'll come together. You're just in survival mode right now.

I feel ya!  I'm dreading the weight check at my appointment on Monday. My plan (once this heat wave breaks) is to walk daily to the farm 1 mile away so ds can see the horses, and go to the playground daily too- I discovered they have stairs up to some slides that are a great height for me to do step ups.  And T just discovered a fun for him, great workout for mommy, game of sitting on my feet and me lifting him up.

Good luck!!  I have plans and goals to run a 5k--- unfortunately, I don't know when I'll be able to run to train.

  • BFing will help for sure but it doesn't do it immediately - at least it didn't for me. It took me a good 9 months to really be back to my pp weight, but I never was the same size. My body was just different and I didn't quite fit into my clothes the same even though I was the same weight, even smaller at a certain point.
I'm sure it will pick up for you again.
  • You are only 6 week pp give it a little more time I'm sure you will get there.  It will also get easier when she needs less feedings and you have a more normal schedule!  I know there was a point where I felt like I was never going to lose the belly but it has gone down a lot.  I know it will never go all the way down until I'm done BF and I'm sure I will always have some lose skin.  No matter my belly will never look the same:(
  • I'm right there with ya. I managed to get back to my pp weight now but I'm no where near my pre-pregnancy size. Things really shifted around for me.
