As a former life guard, I would recommend no life jacket at all (if we are talking about pools, on a boat totally different story). Honestly, they just give you and baby a false sense of security and don't do anything to help her learn to swim. This often results in parents who don't pay attention as closely as they would if the kid didn't have a life jacket on and that is when accidents happen. Plus, most lifejackets sold for kids for swimming purposes are not Coast Guard/Red Cross approved because although they do help kids to float they don't necessarily keep their heads out of the water. Dump the life jacket and just hold her in the pool.
Yes please! We couldn't find a purely "infant" sized one - they've all been infant/child and the thing is so big on my little guy! He deals with it, but is NOT happy.

Yes, we don't use a life jacket in the pool. However, we got one for the boat because it's the law in Missouri. We got one from walmart for $10 and it's by Ocean Pacific.

Is this one "self-righting"? Here in PA infants have to have a "self-righting" life vest.

I was wondering the same thing. That one looked more like a "swimming" kind that says it's not an official approved floatation device. We have the same law here.
Do all the self-righting ones have those things behind the head? The one we had was like a choking device. She screamed the entire time she had it on until she fell asleep. Horrible.
I got ours at Walmart. I live in PA too & go boating almost every weekend. Its self righting, head support, cg approved. When she's in it she doesnt fuss, she kind of just stays still. its pretty funny actually, but yeah she doesnt mind it.Target sells the same one, but in pink & for a few dollars more.
