  You do better than me.  I don't fill up the basin.  I generally don't use much for getting them started and soaped up, but still, you're probably saving more than I (we're supposedly not supposed to submerge our plates, bowls, etc in water because of their design). 

  I think rinsing with clean tap water, presuming you don't have the tap going the entire time is fine.

  I do the same thing you do. I looked it up once and that was the most water friendly way I could find to do it.

  I just want to say that y'all seriously impress me. I wash some by hand, but most still goes in the dishwasher.
