Anyone use Thirsties Duo Diapers?

I am researching a mix of CD to start my stash.  LO is due at the end of September.

I already bought 3 BG 3.0's, 2 FB OS, and 2 FB small.  I am a little weary knowing that I currently have 5 OS diapers and assume that they won't fit him right away.  So I am looking for other CD's (fitteds, pre-folds, etc.) that will fit him as a newborn.  I'm probably going to get some Thirsties fitteds and covers for sure.

Anyone used Thirsties duo dipes?  What do you think of them?

  • I have two and love them! The hemp insert holds a lot of liquid, and the microfleece is very stay-dry. Plus the gussets prevent leaks.

How is the fit? Were you able to use them on your newborn early on?  If so, is/was she in size 1?

We just got a size 2 and it is super bulky on DS at 21 lb and 30".  I can't imagine putting it on him at birth, and he was a big baby at 9 lb 6 oz.  If you want to use it early I would definitely try out a size 1.

Size 1 will be good for a newborn, since it covers the X-small to small range of sized Thirsties. DD is using size 2 now, but she's tall/big for her age.

this- but i have more than 2 now.  they aren't a trim diaper but they work fabulously and are our night diaper. they fit from the get-go too.

  • I started using this diaper on my DS at 3 weeks old. I have the pocket and covers and I love them. He was 7 lbs 11oz at birth so he was probably about 8.5 or 9 lbs when I started using them. They did seem a little big but still worked well. I have a lot of OS covers and pockets and have only just started using them. DS is 12 lbs 3 oz now.

Ditto this but we have 6 in rotation and they are great.  They are DH's fave because they are the easiest NB dipe we have for him to use.  I think we started using them somewhere around 6.5 lbs (DS was 5-11 when we brought him home and I know they were a bit big on him then).

  • I have two, that I've been using since April on my son.  I hate the way the insert fits in them.  It doesn't lay flat and wrinkles up.  It's too wide for the narrowest part of the diaper (between the crotch), so it makes it bulkier there.  It seems to be a trimmer fit in the back butt area, and hips, but bulky in the crotch.  And the hemp/cotton insert takes FOREVER to dry.  Most of the time when I wash 3 days worth of diapers (all pockets of various brands),  those two are the only two pieces not dry in one regular dry cycle.  I like the gussets, but not enough to have more than 2.

I'm more than ecstatic on my  Rumparooz OS diapers!  I got them the same time, and they seem trimmer, with an internal gussett, and they snap down very small.  I'm hoping to try them on a small baby this weekend to see how they would fit.

  • Thanks ladies!

I think I will at least get one.  I also was wanting a Rumparooz in the bubblegum pattern (so cute)!

Do you use them with the duo insert for nighttime?

are you thinking of the duo covers and not the duo diapers?  there are both - the duo diapers are a pocket diaper that comes with a dual microfiber/hemp insert which is what we use.  :-)

and i'll ditto the insert fits crappy - you have to make sure when it's snapped down to the smallest setting that you have it all tucked in so it doesn't stick out the back (or front) of the pocket (because it wants to).  that's my biggest complaint.  but the inserts DO agitate out of the pocket in the wash on their own as they claim.  i've never had one that failed to do so - which is definitely nice!
