2 Month Shots - Any Advice?

DD has her two month appt today and will be receiving 4 shots and 1 oral syringe per Ohio's vaccination guidelines. Judging by how much she screamed during her one 1-month Hep shot, I'm looking for some ways to get her through this appt. For those that have had the 2 month shots, any advice on how to soothe LO? I FF, so I know one suggestion is to immediately nurse her, but unfortunately this won't work for me.

TIA!

  • My DS had his yesterday. My husband held him, and the doctor was great - it was all over in no time at all. Yes, he cried but after a minute (& a little milk!) he was really fine.

Just have a bottle of formula ready to feed to her & bring anything else that you usually use to soothe her - like a pacifier or toy.

    Good luck!

  • I'm not gonna lie, my LO had them yesterday and he screamed his little heart out. I think it was just too much for him, and I could see the shock of pain on his face with each one. DH had to hold him down, I couldn't handle that part, so I stood next to him and stroked LO's hair. When it was over I picked him up and held him close, covered him with kisses and told him I was so proud of him. He calmed down in less than a minute. The nurse suggested a binky, but when they're that upset a pacifier is useless. Good luck.
  • I had the same experience as the previous posters.  DD screamed and it broke our hearts.  As soon as it was over we wrapped her tightly in a blanet and I held her close, gave her kisses, rocked her, and we sang to her.  She was over it in about a minute or two.

She was then a little craky the next day but nothing to write home about.

    Good luck!

  • we held his hands and sang to him right by his ears.during the shots. it was over in a second and he was fine right after. i picked him up right after and told him how proud I was. then we nursed,
  • Hugs cuddles and a bottle are really all you can do.  Some peds recommend giving them tylenol before coming in but not all so you may want to check on that.  My ped didn't but my sisters did.

  • if you use a pacifier, give it to him before they stick him and have a bottle ready to feed him right afterwards.

  • I had two nurses come in and they did them in each thigh at the same time, and have them give her the oral vacc last, that soothes them.
