Okay, so Evan is probably in the 4 month wakeful stage and he is pretty congested and he is chewing on my hand a lot (so we aren't sure if he has just started teething), but he is sleeping less and less by the day.
When he was about 10 weeks old he started sleeping about 8 hours a night from 11 pm - 7am. This lasted for a few weeks. When we moved him to his room he started sleeping about 6 hours and waking once for a feeding. He would eat and go back to sleep easily. I had no problem putting him to bed drowsy and having him fall asleep.
For the past 2 weeks he has been waking every 3 hours and is a bit fussy. Since the 4th of July he has been up every 2 hours (not always hungry) and he screams bloddy murder the second you lay him down. If you pick him up he is almost asleep in seconds. If you put him in his bouncy chair he is asleep in a few minutes. When you lay him in his crib he cries before you can even get your hands out of the crib.
We let him cry for 5 to 10 minutes at a time last night and it took about 30-40 minutes to get him to sleep and then he woke up after an hour and a half.
After 3 days of only getting 4 hours of disjointed sleep DH and I are at our wits end. We really want DS to sleep in his crib and be able to soothe himself, but I also know he is still young and that his congestion and other issues maybe making this hard for him. We are about to just let him sleep in his swing and deal with the crib issue later.
Oh, he naps for a total of 3 - 4 hours a day at daycare (most of which are in the swing). We have asked them to not turn the swing on, but to let him sleep in it due to his congestion and he still seemed to sleep just fine.
I know there a bunch of phiolosophies out there on sleep, but his sleep has just gone downhill so quickly I want to know if anyone else experienced this.

Re: Sleeping less and less. Really need advice! (long)
Could he possibly have an ear infection? That was my first thought -- that the pressure on his lil' ears is so much that it hurts when you try to lay him flat in the crib. But that wouldn't explain his behavior over 2 weeks.
It could also be that he is going through a growth spurt, hence the waking up every 3 hours (maybe he is hungry?).
I don't know...but just wanted to toss those thoughts out there. Lack of sleep stinks big time. Hope this passes quickly!
Sounds like the 4 month wakeful period. Google it, it's very common for sleep regression to occur at that age.
I don't really have much advice other than that it will pass. Are you feeding him when he wakes up? He could be hungry due to a growth spurt.
Sounds like it could be an ear infection or at least fluid in the ears and so that's why he wants to stay upright. for the next couple of days, trying inclining his mattress for him to sleep close to a 45 degree angle. you might also want to try to purchase a humidifier to help with the congestion. What works well for us is doing a vapor bath (Johnson and Johnson) and then afterwards sucking the nose right afterwards to get the most you can out.
We purchased this for my older daughter for when she has a cold is congested, but have used it this past weekend on Ally and she's been sleeping a lot better for a few days now. But I think her issue is that she has silent reflex and so the incline position helps her a lot. https://www.amazon.com/Bed-Wedge-Pillow-pillow-Duro-Med/dp/B000EONE28/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=hpc&qid=1278522096&sr=8-1
No other advice since we went/are going through the same thing and Ally is turning 7 months next week. She stopped STTN around the same age as Evan now and only this past weekend has only woken up 1-2 times a night (versus 5-6).
Really wish I had some sound advice or words of encouragement!! We are still going through the same sleep problems. He was fine over the holiday weekend; back to normal 8 hrs of sleep and when Tuesday rolled around we are back to no sleep.
It is really exhausting and I even contemplating taking a nap vs. lunch today
. I say use whatever works for now and worry about the crib later. We just got to hang in there!
Wow, I can't believe you are still able to function with so little sleep for 3 months!
We have his bed at an incline, but it is nothing like one in the link. This morning I went in and he was at the foot of his crib. I guess he slid down when he was tossing and turning.
I wonder if it is an ear issue since he has had a bunch of ear wax the last week along with the increased congestion.

Thanks for all of your help and for commiserating with me. I'm sorry that so many of us are having these issues, but it helps to know we aren't alone.
Looks like Evan will enjoy sleeping in his swing tonight. This way mommy and daddy can actually get some sleep. :-)
He has his 4 month check up tomorrow, so we will see what the doctor has to say about his ears and congestion.
On the bright side, when he is awake he is a much happier baby than he used to be before his reflux meds.

four month wakeful, and maybe ear issues, but it really just sounds developmental.
do whatever you need to do to get sleep, as a family! if that means the swing, swing him! if it means let him sleep in the pnp by your bed so you aren't getting up three or four times a night to feed him, do it. don't worry about habits or long term things like that right now, just get through this stage.
once he gets out of this period, and gets back to STTN (or close to it) then you can work on getting him back in his crib. But take it one problem at a time and right now, everyone getting more sleep is more important than where he's sleeping (at least, that's how we handled it, so this is just my opinion
)
