who here has had sushi (the raw kind) since their bfp?
i did with DS & i did with this one, too. granted, the place we go to (the only sushi place we'll eat at), we knew the previous owners & the current ones, and neither of those men would serve me anything they wouldn't serve their own wives while pregnant.
i also know that the fish they get in daily was flash frozen on the boat as soon as it was caught. i talked with my doctor about it before doing it; she was fine with it because we know & trust the source.
Re: s/o alcohol consumption
Same here.
Me three.
I haven't - it just hasn't looked good to me.
What Are Your Thoughts on Tap Dancing Penguins?
Me too!! I asked my OB if I could have it and he looked at me like I had 2 heads and then gave me a firm NO. I guess I'll have to deal with the cooked stuff until baby comes out.
We have gone and had sushi about 4 times since i found out i was pregnant.
I will order a cooked roll and DH orders a few raw. I will normaly eat a few pieces of the raw it is just so much better.
Like you we trust where we get it and they flash freeze.
I love, love, love sushi...just not during pregnancy.
I threw-up in the seafood section of the market during 1st tri and haven't been able to look at fish since.
see, the bakery section of the market makes me gag. stupid hormones & what they do to sense of smell!

I stick to the cooked sushi rolls, like the shrimp tempura roll. Not the same, I know, but it'll do for now!!
I'm not sure which is sadder? And yes, stupid dumb hormones!
I had 3.
I also eat lunch meat.
I've only eaten cooked rolls so far, but I also haven't been anywhere high-end for sushi, just to a little neighborhood place or the grocery store. In a nicer place I might splurge.
I'm trying to avoid tuna (my absolute favorite) anyways because of mercury, so besides that, it hasn't been too bad sticking to the cooked stuff.
That said, I am the first one to admit I'm being way on the ridiculously conservative side with most of these rules. Millions of Japanese women eat sushi while pregnant, so I don't think you need to feel too guilty if you eat some once in a while.
I love sushi, but have only snuck one piece of tuna roll from DH since my BFP. I've had a few hotdogs, and a few lunch meat sandwiches.
Oh well

::gasp::
I just picked myself up off the ground after fainting. You are a rebel.
Does it make me more of one if I told you've have had a caesar salad AND licked my cake batter coverd finger yesterday!?
I think I've had sushi three times since finding out. Oddly enough, it seems to be the only food I "Crave".
I asked my doctor about it and she told me "No" because I shouldn't be eating anything raw. I still go for the raw stuff. I've never gotten sick from sushi in the past and we've been going to the same place for awhile now.
After doing a lot of research on my own, I'm perfectly comfortable eating it occasionally. I won't be going twice a week or anything (my dream!), but I'm not going to feel bad about having it once a month or for special occasions.
I guess it's a good thing we aren't well off, otherwise it would probably be more difficult to deny myself
I ate a tuna roll last week! It was heaven...I have missed it so very much. We will only go to places we have been dining at for years and trust. I would never smoke or drink, but to me sushi is a different area of opinion and preference. I did not consume it until my 21st week to be extra careful. I will not eat it more than once every other week for mercury content but as far as being scared of getting a bad piece, not too concerned. We have been eating at these places for 5 years now without any bad experiences for us or anyone that has eaten with us. Also all the Japanese waitresses we have interrogated on the subject say they ate it throughout their pregnancies and had healthy babies.
I told my OB that I thought all the food rules were a bit hysterical and couldn't I eat sushi from Nobu for example (a fancy schmancy place.) She told me she ate hotdogs and sushi throughout her own pregnancy. Same caveats, always from a place you trust and know.
Since then I've had rare tuna once from an organic restaurant I love and I've had salami and prosciutto (what I missed the most) from an Italian restaurant we know/like.
I have about a half a glass of champagne and 1/4 glass of wine every so often when we're out to a big dinner w/ family or friends.
The last time I had wine and proscuitto I felt the baby move a lot that night & the next morning. At first I was mildly worried that meant something was wrong but everything I've read since is that lots of moving means healthy healthy. So I am going to assume that our little dude/lady loves him some prosciutto.
Exactly. My OB said don't eat it every day, but once a week is fine. I have it probably once every two weeks. We go pretty frequently for work lunches and my husband and I go a couple times a month for dinner.
Everything in moderation!
