High-Risk Pregnancy

High Risk pregnancy

Hello Ladies,

I am new on this board, but recently have been on the miscarriage/pregnancy loss board.  Someone suggested that I talk to another board because I haven't actually had a miscarriage yet, but at my first ultrasound my doctor couldn't find a heart beat and said that it didn't look good because of that and also my HCG levels didn't exactly double.  He told me that I am going to miscarry soon.  Well I am seeing a specialist because I am insulin resistant and have some blood pressure and cholesterol problems.  I wasn't intending on getting pregnant because I was trying to get these issues under control.  Well God had a different plan for me.  Well back to my story, before I went to the doctor, he had put me on some progesterone pills because my numbers were at 6.7 and should have been above 15.  So I got my blood drawn again and it rose to 16.  My HCG numbers went from 24000 to 27,044.  After my ultrasound my doctor ordered another HCG test and my numbers went to 25,299.  I know that HCG levels shouldn't go down.  But I was wondering if any you ladies ever have complications like this?  I talked to a lady yesterday while watching fireworks and she told me that she had the same issues as me and her numbers fluctuated like that and her daughter is 2 1/2 now.  She was born early about 2/12 months, but she survived.  The lady also told me that she had some blood clotting issues and her doctor (by the way is my doctor too) put her on a blood thinner and her daughter began to liven up. They couldn't find her heart beat either for a few weeks.  My doctor also ordered a blood clotting panel on me as well.  Well I go back in two weeks for another ultrasound because my doctor said I could have became pregnant later than what I thought.  I just wanted to see if maybe if any of you ever had a similar situation or if you are having a similar situation.  Thanks for any advice and sorry that this is really long.  Thank you.

Re: High Risk pregnancy

  • I'm sorry you're having such a rough time.  How many weeks do they think you were when the doctor did the ultrasound?

My HCG levels never went down but they were not doubling as often as they should have - it was a very slow rise.  My progesterone was also low and I had to do progesterone shots to get my levels up.  My doctor couldn't find a heartbeat at 6 or 6 weeks, 5 days.  It was finally visible at 7 weeks, 4 days.  We did IVF so I knew exactly how old the baby should be.  My doctor was so pessimistic that I called her Dr. Downer.  I think a lot of doctors are like that because they are trying to be realistic- but they end up being too depressing.  For me, once I got past 8 weeks, things went better.  I'm now 34 1/2 weeks pregnant and will have the baby in 1 1/2 weeks due to pre-eclampsia (although totally unrelaed to the issues in the beginning- I had pre-e in my last pregnancy too).

Good luck - wishing you a lot of sticky dust so your little one grows to term.

3 IUI's and 2 IVF's later- Brady arrived. Born at 36 weeks after PUPPS and pre-e/HELLP.
IUI- BFN IVF #1 -BFP! Allie is our 2nd IVF baby. Born at 36 1/2 weeks after pre-e again

  • Sorry for your issues. I only had one HCG test done to confirm pregnancy and attempt to date the pregnancy. They should not go down but perhaps there is hope eventhough they aren't doubling and the drop was so minor. I wonder if you can have testing error?. How far along are you because near week 5-7 each day is important as you can have no HB one day and have one the next.
