Bottle Feeding-Need help

My LO is 4 wks old and takes a "formula bath" every time I give her a bottle. The bottle itself doesnt leak, it's LO's mouth:-) Could the circumfrence of the nipple/base be too large or is my child just a sloppy eater?  I currently use Avent bottles..

Any help/advice/recommendations are appreciated!

  • You may need a slower nipple. My DS is almost 5 weeks and we have been using  NUK bottles with the "slow" orthodontic nipples-- it is supposed to mimic breastfeeding, as close as a bottle can.

  • The only suggestion I would have would be to see if you can get a slower flow nipple.

  • Oh, and you will want to make sure the nipple is far enough in baby's mouth. The NUK nipples have a dome-top surrounding it and DS gets a good air-tight latch just like when he's latched to my nipple.

We switched to a preemie nipple on our dr. brown's bottles and it got rid of the formula baths!

    Narrow neck or wide neck?

  • I have also found that if I sit DD up more versus her laying back she doesn't get as messy.
  • We started with the Tommee Tippee bottles and I thought that they were working, but LO ended up wearing as much as he was taking in. He got bad gas pains one night and we switched to Dr. Brown's and he is drinking most of his milk now. Thank goodness.
