My dh is loving both Evangeline (Evie) and Mila. When 1st looking at Mila tell me how you would pronounce it. I am wondering if most people know of the few actresses with the name and know the pronunciation.
OOOh, I like both. But, I am pronouncing Mila as: My-Lah.
Thanks, that was my 1st pronunciations too but it is Me-la. I love it but think she will spend the rest of her life telling people how to pronounce it.
Trendy. I might go with Camilla or Camille, but not just Mila.
Mila is not a derivative of Camilla or Camille. It is actually from Emilia but Mila is a name in and of itself.
Then I would name her Emilia, but not Mila. It has only been a name for a few years. I would not want to name my child something that everyone say, "what?" when she says it.

I agree that she would explain the pronunciation forever. But I do love the name.
eta: it's been a name for more than a few years. Not sure I understand that comment. There are the actresses Mila Kunis and Milla Jovovich. Here is a baby site's stats. It goes back to 1881.
PMQ must be younger than me, because to me, Mila ("mee-lah") will forever make me think of Mila Mulroney, wife of most-hated former Canadian prime minister. So thumbs down from this Canuck.

It is NOT a new name see Brewsters comment for more details. There are actresses with the name that are 30+ plus it has been around since 1800's!
I love the name. FWIW, Milla Jovovich was born Milica Natasha Jovovich and Mila Kunis was born Milena Markovna Kunis. Both were born in Kiev, Ukraine.
ETA: Evangeline is one of the middle name contenders if we have a girl. Amelia is the first name of choice with the nicknames of Mia, Ami and now, Mila.

I would pronounce it Mee-la.
I love it and I would say Me-lah.
I also think it sounds great with your daughters name
Mee-lah
I don't know any actresses but the wife of Brian Mulroney had this name.

LOVE it. Feminine without being too flowery, and very timeless.
I'd pronounce it "mee-luh."
DD2's daycare teacher's name is Mila. (mee-luh). I like it!
