Might be a dumb question...Mattress pad & detergent question

I was curious if you washed your organic mattress bad prior to putting it on the mattress, I am guessing I should...

Also, I was researching detergents and plan on CD'ing, and found good data off this website & purchased Arm & Hammer Essentials Free (Not the scented kind)...has anyone else used this detergent who is CD'ing?  I plan on washing all the baby's blankets & sheets in it to start, but figued I'd check here for some feedback first.  It was free of all agents mentioned on this website & pretty affordable which I liked : )  The only problem I forsee is that it's not an HE detergent & I have an HE front loader, I figured I should possibly just use less than what is suggested to avoid build up.

  • If you haven't opened the detergent yet, I would take it back. I'm not sure about that kind and CD's, but I really wouldn't use non-HE detergent in an HE washer. Even using less of it could gum up your washer and may create a sudsing problem, which would prevent things from actually getting clean. I use less then what I'm supposed to with our HE detergent and still have thought I had to many suds.

  • I agree with the previous poster - you really shouldn't use non-HE detergent in an HE washer.  It's not just the amount you use, HE detergent is formulated differently with less sudsing chemicals (surfactants) than regular detergent.

  • Thank you ladies, I got the washer about 9 months ago and have been using HE & non-HE, do you suggest anything to "clean out" my washer from the over-sudsing I have probably caused?  This Arm & Hammer detergent actually has an HE one that just came out, now I just need to find it : )

Did you guys wash your mattress pad before you put it on the crib?
