What's everyone doing for clothes right now?

I'm feeling like I'm in the in between stage were some of my regular clothes don't fit anymore but not big enough to wear actual maternity clothes.  I've looked at Target & Kohl's in their maternity sections and feel completely frustrated.  Nothing is cute, or too big or just looks plain stupid. (I'm mainly looking for capris or shorts for casual wear and any cute shirts) I don't want to wear something that screams frumpy but something comfortable and cute....and not have to pay and arm and a leg for it.  Is it crazy to buy a size or two up in capris to have them fit my growing belly.  I'm so confused and frustrated with the whole clothes process.  I just want a definite belly to say Yup she's pregnant...not just fat!

Thanks ladies!

Re: What's everyone doing for clothes right now?

  • I'm going to find some summer dresses this weekend to help during this inbetween stage, also I'm wearing my pants a few times before I wash them (I always do this with jeans, but have started in the last week or so doing it with work pants). I just put them back on the hanger at the end of the day, until I want wear them again. They stretch out and are more comfortable usually the 2nd time around. I just know I'm not big enough for the maternity clothes a friend lent me, but my normal clothes are too tight usually (by clothes I'm strickly talking about pants). So I figure some dresses and skirts might allow me to make it to the "oh wow she's pregnant" stage.

  • I am in maternity pants from Old Navy or just lounging/yoga pants.  For shirts I still fit in mine (I'm already a chubber so...) but I bought 5 new tops from Old Navy/Gap and they are all nursing tops.  Until I have to buy big pg belly type tops I'll wear the nursing tops and double points bonus is that they are super cute (empire waist, v-neck) and will be quite useful after baby.
  • I haven't even shifted clothes over.  Still wearing pre-preg stuff  There's a few items I can't wear, but there's a closetful that still fit for now.

Granted I put on more weight than I wanted to in the half-year or so beforehand, so I was kinda shifting over to fat clothes, things that would hide a tummy, etc.  So odd bloat has been deftly hidden

  • I'm wearing maternity shorts from JCPenney - the ones designed to go under the belly are fitting fine; full-panel ones are still a bit big/fall down when I wear them, LOL.  As for shirts, I've bought some maternity t-shirts from JCPenney & Motherhood, and tanks from JCPenney (just for the length - my regular shirts aren't long enough to hide the waistbands on the maternity shorts).  I still need to buy a pair of capris and maybe a pair of jeans before we leave to go out of town next week as well, and possibly get a bella band to help hold up the shorts that aren't quite staying up on their own yet.

  • I pretty much wear leggings and long baggy tops every day.  Thank goodness for the 80s comeback of the last few years.
  • Still wearing pre-pregnancy clothes, but a lot of them don't fit.  I'm trying to wear my longest shirts and I always wear a jacket at work.

On the weekends, shorts or yoga pants with elastic waste bands.

  • I switched to maternity bottoms in week 10. The band wasn't cutting it anymore, as my pants wouldn't zip at all and the pressure of the band was making me feel sicker. That said, I LOVED the band in weeks 7-10. Have you tried one? I am short with long legs, so my torso has puffed out sooner that most peoples' but I think most folks could still get some good mileage out of a band into 2nd tri.

For tops, I can wear normal ones but I like the tight-fitting maternity tops that show my little belly (now that we are out) and make me look otherwise trim (and are long enough to cover the maternity waistbands on pants). I wore baggier shirts before we came out and apparantly people thought I had really packed on some pounds.
  • My last pair of my regular sized prepregnancy pants officially did not fit as of today but I'm wearing the Bella Band with my regular pants and have a couple of jeans/work pants in a bigger size that I can wear (fits the belly but baggy everywhere else).  I bought some strechy skirts and dresses and a couple of roomy shirts to grow in for the rest of the summer but for now my regular shirts are still fitting just fine.

  • I bought three belly bands from Motherhood and those have allowed me to wear my work pants unbuttoned some days. It's funny, somedays i have a huge belly and other days i just have a pudge. I went to Old Navy(everything was 30% off) and bought a pair of maternity pants for work, a pair of casual shorts, a maxi dress and a long flowing skirt so the day I wake up and nothing fits, I will have something to wear to work. I also bought two black maternity dresses for work as well. I left the tags on everything until I need it. I must say, my bump is starting to grow.

  • Loving my denim capris from old navy - if they're still a little big, use a belly band over them to hold them up. Still WAY more comfortable than trying to hold up too small pre-preg pants.
