Nipple Question For Those Who Have Stopped BF/EP...

Okay, I stopped pumping a little over a week ago.  I leaked like crazy for several days so, though I attempted to let them air out sometimes, I was wearing breast pads pretty much 24/7.  Well, I ended up with cracked nipples (something I NEVER had while I was breastfeeding OR pumping).  These have pretty much healed with the use of Neosporin BUT now my nipples and areolas are peeling like crazy!  I'm talking super dry and super flaky.  It's so gross.  Has anyone else experienced this?  Was there anything that you used that helped or am I just going to have to wait this one out?  I haven't tried putting anything on them yet because of the cracking.  Thanks!

I'm still BFing but I would use Lanolin to help with the healing.

Duh!  Thanks!  I haven't thought about my tube of Lanolin in so long because I never had to use it while breastfeeding/pumping.  I hope I can remember where it is...

  • I tried BFing and had such cracked nipples (and pieces of skin completely gone) that we had to quit. To heal them, I'd wash them with warm water four times a day, put lanolin and antibiotic ointment on. Used both - kept them moist enough not to peel skin off when removing pads, but not too moist not to heal. Took a few days, but felt sooo much better with the combo on.
