About to start Clomid for first time

We've been trying naturally for a year and a half.  He's been tested (he's off the charts) and I've been tested (all perfect) so now it's time for drugs.  I turned 35 in May.  On CD1 my doctor had me start taking Mucinex (all month).  On CD5 I will start Clomid.  As soon as my OPK says I'm about to ovulate I will start a progesterone suppository for 14 days.  I'm so hopeful that this will work.  All fingers and toes are crossed.  I actually have 3 children already but the youngest is nearly 10.  It's been a while, body isn't what it used to be apparently.  Anyone else used this exact treatment before?

  • Good luck!

Please do make sure that your Dr is monitoring you on Clomid via b/w and u/s. There are risks involved and there is a chance for HOM. It's a serious drug that seems to be used without monitoring WAY too much IMO.

I double agree. Also, I have never started taking progesterone before ovulation.

    Good luck on your cycle.

  • Sounds like you aren't going to be monitored with the clomid which you will find isn't very popular around here.  I would not do a round of clomid without having my OB or RE do u/s to make sure I am responding appropriately.  Good luck!

  • Are you giving us all the info your Dr/RE told you?  He/she didn't talk about being monitored while on clomid?  Are you sure they told you to take progesterone before ovulating?  Your suppose to take it after.

  • Okay, I didn't explain this one part very well.  I am not starting the progesterone until after I ovulate, the day after is what she told me.

As far as being monitored, that doesn't appear to be part of the plan.  It is my OB, not an RE.  She said she will try me on the Clomid/Progesterone for 3 months and then refer me to the RE.  I keep reading over and over that I'm supposed to be monitored, especially from the responses I got on here, so I'm not sure why she isn't doing that with me.  What exactly is the harm in just taking it as prescribed and seeing if I get pregnant?  I don't know what HOM stands for.

I've certainly done my fair share of reading on the reputable websites for information regarding Clomid but never saw anything about HOM.  Please share your concerns with me, but more specific if possible.

Thanks again for everyone's tips and advice.

  • Whew, I feel much better.  I just hung up with my doctor's office and they said that because I'll be taking such a low dose (50mg) for the 5 days that the risks are so minimal it's not necessary.  However, if I haven't gotten my period by CD35 and I don't get a BFP then I will go in for b/w and u/s at that point.

    I feel better.  :)

     Good luck to you!!  :)

  • Would be SO happy if I got twins!!  I always wanted them ever since i was a little girl.  Now, between being 35, twins running in my husband's family, and taking Clomid I sure hope it happens!!!
