Ok, so Tegan gets 12 oz of baby food and 24 oz of formula in a day. She's in the 25th percentile for her height and weight and she seems satisfied with the amount of food that she's getting in a day. I've driven myself crazy in the past with following charts and comparing Tegan to other babies and so I've told myself that I'll follow my gut when it comes to feeding and caring for Tegan. However, I wonder, could I potentially harm her or overfeed her with too many solids? I know it sounds crazy, but DH and I have both struggled with our weight for years and I don't want DD to have the same issues. I'd hate to start her off on the wrong path.
Re: Amount of food; what's the concern?
I think that's a legitimate concern to have and something I would address with the pedi. What did they say as far as how much she should be eating?
We are easing into solids and just started about 3 weeks ago. My pedi said to eventually aim for 4-6 TBSP per day so 2-3 oz. They said he can eat anything from a teaspoon to 1/4 cup at a sitting and to offer solids twice a day. They also recommended mostly veggies and fewer fruits. We are breastfeeding on demand. I don't pump so I don't know how much he eats but he is at the 50%tile for weight and 60-75%tile for height.
ETA: I am not concerned about him eating enough solids because the pedi said they are just for the experience and exposure until age 1. He is getting all the nutrition from breastmilk or would from formula if we FF.
Right now we're trying to find a happy medium between solids and formula. I had a laxed approach to solids until he turned six months and started drinking about 40oz of formula. So I'm trying to figure out what the right combo of formula to solids is. We're trying 4oz of solids and 4oz of milk 2-3x day and then the early morning and night bottles of 8oz.
I don't care how much he eats more than I care about getting the right nutrients.

See i wasnt worried either but after seeing what some kids on here are getting i feel like they are getting too much...
they get approximately 28-30 oz of forumal each a day then approximately (2oz fruit + 2 tbsp oatmeal (breakfast) + 4oz fruit (lunch) + 3.5oz veggie + 1.5oz meat (dinner)+1 tbsp rice cereal at bedtime ) =11oz solids +3 tbsp cereal they also get a little juice and puffs during the day.
They still seem hungry so we recently added the extra snack of juice and puffs and meat to dinner.
I agree i have weight issues and DH had them as a kid so i want to keep my LOs on a healthy well balanced diet but i am at a loss for whats right. will LOs indicate what amount is good for them?
Yeah, your other post got me wondering about everything. Did you start your twins on solids at 4 months? I think that may be a play a big part in how much they eat. Tegan gets 3.5 oz of fruit w/1.5 tblsp of oatmeal for breakfast, 4 oz of veggie for lunch and 4 oz of a "meal" (chicken noodle soup, chicken and apples, turkey and sweet potatoes, etc.) for dinner. That comes out to 12 oz of baby food + 1.5 tablespoons of oatmeal a day.
Sigh, I wish I knew all the answers!

Agreed. LO's will tell you when they are full so as long as you're not forcing food into them they should be fine.
I have read that babies are sometimes overfed because they obviously can't tell us when they're full and either they don't give or we don't pick up on the signals. This can somehow cause their brain not to receive the "I'm full" message on time as they get older. Not sure if this is true or not, though...
ETA: DS gets between 28 - 30 oz of formula a day and 7 - 8 oz. (two servings) of solids. That seems to satisfy him, but my sister thinks he needs more and fed her kids more solids when they were DS's age.
I believe this is true if you introduce solids before they are ready. If they are mature enough for solids they will turn their head or give some other indication when they are done.
